Hpal/DK:
Counters most, if not all, double dps teams. Ridiculous survivablity, you can force draw vs almost any setup as well.
Counter any disc priest team. Strong vs shamans. Boring to death vs resto druids. Potential to win other hpal teams.
Disadvantage is naturally that you'll have longer games. But hpal can actually help you to land kills better than resto shamans/druids. You can also equip a lot of pve gear safely with paladin.
Disc/DK:
Can be strong vs most double dps teams, but doesn't particularly counter them.
Potential to win any healer/dps in reasonable time. Reasonably strong vs pal/war also.
Offensive dispel/ mana burn makes your day. Extremely high dps/burst with dots + shadowfriend + mind blast / swd.
Countered by almost any double dps with pve geared rogue and comps such as beastcleave. Low skilled teams will also struggle with warrior teams.
TLDR:
Hpal = long games
disc = less longer games
