What did you do.. other then zooming in on the BG and placing the render and text on it..:confused:

made the render from scratch? its not a premade...

Only thing I could suggest would be to center Shepard, then work on the lighting. At the moment it just looks like him in front of a poster, whereas you look at the first picture, he's getting light from different angles, and of different colors dependent on where they're coming from on the map.
