Does anyone know if it is somewhat viable to play with a 2 handed weapon in pvp? I know that's not what they are intended to do but im just curious is all.

No, It will not work at all, Terrible idea and dont do it :)

as a clarification...

1. you lose lava lash, your hardest hitter
2. you lose a free proc off of unleash elements (which is really useful)
3. you want DW 2.6 for more maelstrom weapons procs as they give you the most bang for your buck.
4. you lose an enchant (like weapon chain)
5. you lose enhancement especially frostbrand for pvp (applies crippling poison basically)

If you want to try something different, use spiritwalker's grace and lava burst while charging a target. instant lolz.
