Other faction transmog possible?

Indeed, i am curious if it's possible to transmog other faction gear. Like, i play ally and i like how an item looks but on the point shop it sais it's for horde faction. I know it won't allow me to equip it but i believe i saw someone on the forums say that so long as it's an item you cauld wear (i.e. plate for wars) and matches the slot you want to xmog then you can actually xmog it. So.. can it be done? Cuz i dun wanna waste points for experiments :P
