1. How to improve your quality of life while playing on Warmane

    Dear community,

I’ve recently started playing Warmane again, after being gone from the server for about 1-2 years. I love the new direction the project is taking with the Lordaeron server, and I’m really happy to be back!

I’m playing on one of the Wrath of the Lich King servers, but I think that this guide covers a concept that is useful irrelevant of server or faction affinity.

Simply put, it has come to my attention that some people suffer from the problem that all private servers bring to some extent, no matter how good the scripting/creation/maintenance is. If you play the same patch over a long time, you’re bound to come to the point where you’ve “Killed the last raidboss/equipped the best gear in the game/know every battleground in and out/etc”.

Simply enough, you’ve “run out of content”.
I’ve met loads of players with this “problem” over my time on both live, and private servers.

In my humble attempt to contribute with something meaningful to the community, I’ve listed a couple of ideas, suggestions and propositions which might or might not help you boost the joy, fun and excitement while playing.

Without wasting more if your precious time, here it goes.

Remind yourself why you play World of Warcraft

There are tons of different reasons for people to play WoW, and understanding why you yourself like the game and spend time in it provides a valuable perspective. For example, you might be playing for one of the following reasons:

    • To Relax from your daily life activity
    • To socialise with friends, sometimes with people who live far away. Or to make new friends!
    • Because you like the thrill of competing in the endgame content, or in PvP.
    • Because you’re simply bored, and WoW seems like a good way to kill some time

Look at the way you currently play the game, are you achieving your intention?

Do some of the other goals interest you?

Try new things! Altering the way you play the game can be refreshing and fun, and bring new joy to your precious hobby.

To make it easier for you, I’ve compiled a list of examples on how to easily spice it up a notch. These are of course just a small sample of things to do. If you have your own ideas or inspirations, feel free to share them with us in the comments below!

    List of examples:
    • Play PvE? Try PvP, and vice versa. Go away from the stereotypes and give a completely different aspect of the game a shot. You might end up having way more fun than expected!
    • Used to playing alone? Try finding a nice group of people to play and hang out with. Doesn’t matter if you’re running a couple of dungeons, BGs, if you’re just chilling around or exploring some new quest chains. Bringing your friends lightens up the mood!
    • Tired of how your gear looks? Visit old content and spice up your appearance! Create cool-looking custom sets, and pretend that transmogrification is a new feature when showing off your efforts in Dalaran!
    • Focused on endless content farm? Try Achievement hunting! Personally I find it fun end exciting, and you get a feeling of accomplishment whenever that new pop-up hits your screen and your point counter increases. Achievements also usually encourage to play the game in more challenging and unusual ways.
    • Never tried a certain profession? Go give it a shot! Be it side professions like cooking, or you’ve simply never tried out engineering, experiment and play around with the cool features!
    • Collect mounts and companion pets! Not only will it make you look way cooler, it also feels SO DAMN GOOD when you finally get that shiny new mount that everyone wants.
    • Explore, visit places you haven’t been to before. There are thousands of unique little hidden spots in Azeroth, most of them are only known to a small fraction of players. Enjoy the lovely little details!
    • Help someone out, even though you don’t benefit from it yourself. You’ll be surprised how satisfying and good it can make you feel. Killing 3-4 extra mobs won’t take much of your time, but the priest who is trying to do his dailies even though he’s in a holy spec will love you for it. And there is actually something like WoW-karma. Good things will come to those who do good. I promise!
    • Played the same class for a long time? Mix it up by leveling a new one, or try a different spec! Many people only ever play 2-4 specs, and miss out on all the fun and excitement that other classes provide. You don’t need to commit completely to a “re-roll”, just play around and have fun for a while. If you get bored, you can always stop or try something else. This is also a great way to increase your game knowledge, by learning other classes spells and abilities.

How to have more fun while leveling:
    • Make the path the goal. Instead of viewing it as an annoying chore before the “actual gameplay” begins at max level, take your time. Also, I recommend to only level when you’re in the mood.
    • Don’t rush it, enjoy it. This goes hand in hand with the previous point, but deserves to be said twice.
    • Try a new race, or move to a new starting zone. Don’t just go for Westfall/Barrens every time because you know the quests, enjoy a different path and the diversity that Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms offer. Do quests you haven’t done before, and see new areas you normally don’t visit!
    • Level your professions while leveling your character. Yes, it’s a little bit slower than running around at max level with an epic mount and collecting everything. But it offers a nice change from questing and grinding from time to time, and with most professions you can actually use some of the things you make for your character throughout your level progression, instead of just instantly vendoring or disenchanting it.
    • Make groups for hard quests or dungeons, meet new people and interact with the community. If you go at it with a positive and friendly attitude, chances are you’ll have a great time and make new friends that you can play with long after hitting max level.
    • Don’t judge other players by their experience or skill with the game, but after how much you enjoy playing with them, if they’re funny and if you’re having a blast. Personally I would much rather spend an hour in a slow group than 30 minutes in a “speed-run”, if it means having a good laugh and fooling around a bit. Remember it’s about having fun!
    • Don’t shy away from doing things like Achievements and complex quest chains along the way, even though it would be quicker at max level. It’ll often be entertaining and challenging!
    • Join a social guild while leveling, or make a new one with your friends that you meet along the way. If the intention is fun and chilling while getting to max level, there will be no drama once you leave it for your main guild at max. Who knows, maybe you’ll even bring some new friends with you!

These are some of my favorite things to do while playing, and if you give it an honest attempt I think that at least a couple of them will bring you the same kind of joy and fun that they do for me.

Please note: I highly encourage you to come up with your own ideas as well, do the things you’ve never done, and try new ways of playing the game! If you find something exciting or awesome, please do share it below. You can also gladly whisper me ingame, on my alliance character “Larana” on the Lordaeron server, or send me a PM here on the forum. I’m always up for a chat and for a good time!

Lastly, if there is one thing that I would like you from this text, it is that: Irrelevant of how much you play, for how long you’ve played or how good you are, World of Warcraft is and always will be a game. It’s designed and intended to be fun, and to connect with other people. You may think that you’re just a tiny part of the community, but you can make the a world of a difference by changing your attitude to a more outwards and open mindset. By spreading positivity and happiness around you in the game, and by giving new things a chance, you’ll affect your fellow players and contribute to a brighter and better community for everyone!

    Sincerely,
    Larana - Lordaeron

  2. This is actually really helpful. I do have a tendency to get rather...bored of MMOs after a while. It happened with me when I played Final Fantasy XIV, Mabinogi, Elsword, Maplestory, It's happening with Guild Wars 2, kinda happened with The Old Republic(That and my computer couldn't run it properly...) You get the idea. It tends to get a bit monotonous doing the same....three things over and over again. I'll need to keep this in mind.

I guess a suggestion I'd have to help keep the game fun for people would be....roleplaying? Making a fun little backstory and personality for your character, and then just..acting like they would. It could prove pretty entertaining. Hell, I was gonna do that myself when I actually start playing. First thing's first though, I need to decide which Expansion server to play on.
