Cataclysm what is Background Downloader for?

Hey, what is The The Background Downloader for? Os something i should be running? Because when i play The game, it says that "importante files are been downloaded" and The game freezes when i try to exit The game, do i need to run that program?

The background downloader (which is a built-in feature that will load with Wow.exe) retrieves missing game data while playing. If the data is crucial, such as the map detail where you are playing, it might take a while to let you run in it (meanwhile the blue squares will appear and you will have to wait for the zone to be downloaded).
If your connection is too slow to download the missing data, you should consider the full download from the website.

So, that would explain why the game keep sayingmthat is downlaoding data all the time? And why the game freezes when i try to quit it, forcing me to Crt-Alt-Del?
