1. Beast Mastery Guide 3.3.5

Hello guys and girls, since there is no guide for BM on wotlk I have decided to present some information for the hunting brothers on Warmane.

As many of u already know this is the easiest spec for leveling/soloing, but is it competitive in the end-game content?

Beast Mastery is definitely the most fun spec to play, due to beign able to tame exotic pets, who not only look awesome, but can also hit almost as hard as you. It is the most beginner friendly, as it has the easiest rotation, but that doesn't mean it requires no skill to play. If u master the spec you will be competitive in both PvE and PvP.
In terms of DPS, according to the hunter spreadsheet, BM's output is about the same as Survival's, however Markmanship beats both specs by around 1k dps with bis gear. However the variable not taken into account is the "player". Hunter's dps is more of a prioritisation than a rotation, that requires you to know which skill to use at the specific moment. That means a Marksman can easily get outdps'd by a BMaster, due to marksmanship beign a more complicated spec to master. Even if both player are "masters of their trade" no fight is ever the same, so always do your best.
A blessing and a curse: The buffed Pet that you have makes you king of fights that require movement, because it keeps hitting and your dps won't fall as much when u move as with the other specs. This can also have the opposite effect if your pet dies, you are pretty reliant on it's dps, so try to keep him alive, or ress him as fast as possible.

    Talents

This is the main spec u will use in PvE:
    http://wotlk.openwow.com/talent#ctbMzttRfu0eRt0eVoZx

    PvP:
    http://wotlk.openwow.com/talent#cqbMzttRfu0eRt0eVooZL
Not a big difference, but utilising Aimed shot as a healing reducer is vital, if you want to kill healers.

    Leveling:
    http://wotlk.openwow.com/talent#ctbMzttRfu0eRt0eVooZL
Mixing pve spec with aimed shot, for those healing mobs or when you run into other players from the opposing faction (which you will do in every zone)

So these are my specs, yes differences are only 2 talents, but i dont think you will need any other talent.

    Pets

The pets in wotlk are very similar in terms of DPS, but the top ones to use in PVE are definitely Devilsaur (highest pet dmg) and Wolf (buffs your dmg).
You can also be tempted to get a cool looking spirit beast, but have in mind it does a little less damage than the two above.

This is the spec you might want to use:

Alternative spec without dash, cause i find it a waste most of the times with it's 30 focus cost, instead we have the passive 30% movement speed, also Charge instead of Bloodthristy, which means u will have to feed the pet or with http://wotlk.openwow.com/item=43350 just use Mend Pet untill he's happy.

For PvP there are also many good pets, but the recommended ones are the Chimaera, the Core Hound and the Worm.
The Chimaera has a little more utility being a cunning pet, and also has Froststorm breath, which is a great ability which slows down enemies for 5 sec (which cant be removed by trinket) and does nature dmg (ignores armor). Great overall.
The Core Hound on the other hand is a pure bursting pet, coming with high dps and Lava Breath ability, which does fire dmg and reduces target's casting speed by 25%. Great for arena.
The Worm is a tenacity pet, so he does the least damage, but also takes the most of it. Great for BGs.
Specs u can use (left one being the most popular):

    A few pet tips:

Always disable your Growl autocast, if you don't need it to tank, as it consumes 15 focus.
Make sure your pet is happy always.
Don't forget your pet's special abilities and talents. Timing Culling the Herd, Furious Howl, Call of the Wild, Rabid and Kill Command with your Rapid Fire and Bestial Wrath, can produce some massive burst of damage.

    Glyphs

Glyph of Bestial Wrath: No BM Hunter should be without this glyph. Combined with 3/3 Longevity, Glyph of Bestial Wrath will reduce the cooldown on Bestial Wrath and The Beast Within to 1 minute, 10 seconds.

Glyph of Steady Shot As long as your Serpent Sting is active on the target, this glyph adds 10% damage to the BM Hunters most often used special shot.

Third slot glyph can be one of these:
Glyph of the Hawk: Provides an additional 6% haste when Improved Aspect of the Hawk procs. (first choice)
Glyph of Serpent Sting: Adds 6 seconds to the duration of Serpent Sting.
Glyph of Kill Shot: Increases the dmg of Kill Shot by 10%.

    Stats prioritisation

    Macros and shot priority

    Basic priority is:

    Kill Shot
    Serpent Sting
    Multi Shot
    Arcane Shot
    Steady Shot

    Macros:

Burst macro: I like to use my Bestial Wrath separately, but if u want you can include it in this macro.
    #showtooltip
    /cast Kill Command
    /cast Call of the Wild
    /cast Rapid Fire
/use 14 (the bottom trinket slot)

Misdirection: This macro casts misdirection on your focus target, if you don't have one, casts on your pet.
    #showtooltip
    /cast [@focus,help][help][@pet,exists] Misdirection

Master's Call macro: Casts Master's call on you. Replace "name" with the name of your Character.
    #showtooltip
    /cast [@name,exists] Master's Call

I hope this guide brings you some perspective on the BM hunter, and thanks for reading! I will post screenshots soon.

DPS Test vs Dummy 80 lvl on Blackrock, MM vs BM comparison:
Tested for around 300k damage, used all skills available and tried my best to do the most dps.
Gear 5600 gs pve fully enchanted and gemmed with agility (agi is good for both specs), no arp cap so arcane shot used in mm rotation.
    BM: http://imgur.com/Q1hDExI
    MM: http://imgur.com/zEYIDEN
So results: MM got nearly 500 dps more and can sustain it longer. BM dps drops a lot after burst and in a longer fight the difference may become higher than 500. With that in mind i think BM is still competitive and can be used for raiding, without a doubt a hunter in every spec is a top damage dealer.
An interesting fact is that my pet had almost the same atack power in both specs, so there might be something bugged in the scaling, but I'm not sure how it was in retail wotlk.

  2. while pet scaling is broken, even pvp geared surv hunt will outdps u

  3. Talk to me in numbers, examples, how exactly is it broken? Everyone is talking about it beign broken, but i havent seen any analysis or comparison with how it is and how it should be, and if its so obvious why the devs are not fixing it?

  4. and if its so obvious why the devs are not fixing it?
Lol dude, there are some obvious and extreme hunter bugs older than 4 months still "unconfirmed".

One extreme bug regarding chimaera pets is older than 1 month and in bugtracker it's "unconfirmed". It may be even older but that's when me and another person discovered it. Because of that bug, playing with a chimaera pet on a terrain that has even a small hill makes it impossible. I'll bet you that if you play vs me and you have a chimaera, you won't take 10% of my hp because i will make your pet useless.

Pets keep debuffs from arenas in the next arenas. Months old bug.

Pets die in 2 shots and if you insta ress them, they die in one hit. Months old bug. It was even worse on old core.

Master's call doesn't always work. It takes the cd but doesn't remove the slow.

    People hitting you through deterrence.

Pet not wanting to ress if you spam heart of the phoenix.

At some point, auto attacks stopped working and guess what ... you lost a lot of dps. I even did 3k dps with 6k gs at DBS because i did not see this bug until someone pointed the damage and i checked my recount. 0 auto attacks and pet did almost nothing.

Want more ? Want bugs regarding pet stats ?

Hunters aren't that important and bm hunters are even less important when it comes to fixing bugs.

Have you tried BM hunter in pve recently ? How about posting some photos of some ICC runs.

  5. @assambok ty for guide there hasn't been as BM resource other than Xecutioner's PVP guide for a while. Now for the questions. Can u post a BiS gear list pls. Why not gem straight Atk power instead of Agi? How much ArP is not too much ArP for BM? More questions inc as soon as i set BM spec on my hunt again.

I assume you're talking about end-game levels of gear?

At BiS, you absolutely want your Arp cap. This is true for any Hunter spec, at least on a working server. The idea that BM Hunters should be exempt from this is an annoyingly widespread misconception. I can't personally speak to how badly things are bugged for BM currently, but if the general consensus that pets are doing a lot less than they should is true, then this only holds even moreso true.

  7. Updated, bear in mind that im showing my new progressive char, so end game content screenshots will be available as I progress.

  8. @DarkenedHue What! u get arp cap for BM as well. And the entire BiS list looks the same as MM -_-. Why did i invest into an entire new t10 set for this then why! ArP gets transferred to pet? Pets need ArP? u guys sure?

  9. http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=306858

So i read this entire thread. But since nobody posted any screenshots i want to try out this gear list myself and do a little comparison.

  10. @assambok Does imp tracking increase pet dmg? Isn't catlike reflexes worth it because of Focused Fire increasing Pet Crit by 20% when kill command is active? Do you really need 2/2 Bestial discipline?

  11. Can we afford to drop Focused Aim when Steady shot is such a big part of our dps?

  12. Shorttemper, why every question on a new post man? :D
Pet doesn't get ARP, its only viable if u get the bis items and u are near the cap, it will only increase your own damage.
Improved tracking also only affects the hunter, TIP: You dnt need to switch tracks all the time, u just need to use one of them to get increased dmg to all the types.
Catlike reflexes is not worth it, cause u need to drop points from better talents.
Bestial Discipline makes ur pet's focus regen faster, therefore he can use more abilities, also if u drop the points, you can only get dodge talent, armor talent or speed talent, which are useless.
Focused aim doesn't benefit steady shot at all. Talent is used mainly if u need hit rating.

  13. @assambok srry my brain has lag xD. I started playing yesterday and realized i have a different spec than yours. Anyway i'm talking about the 70% pushback from Focused Aim that we lose.
So my gear is BiS normal version of your list except 2 items. http://armory.warmane.com/character/...ecrown/summary
I did a ICC25N recently and i pulled pretty decent dps. Here is the SS.

This is on DBS 2nd to a BiS Fury war.

    http://imgur.com/XPBsRdV
    This one is on Festergut.

My MM pulls 17-18 k though on DBS.

  14. Well thats a great hunt u got there, thanks for the tests, i didn't mentian the pushback, because most of the times u won't be taking dmg and the 5% dmg from tracking is much better. I would suggest u test it with my spec to see if it makes any difference, but i think u can get around 16,5-17k dps, maybe a bit lesser than MM, but still it will show that BM hunter is not inferior to other classes. If u can provide more screens i will put them in the guide, since im very far from doing ICC on Lordaeron and can't provide end game tests.

Yeah, if you observe your own recount that you also posted here, you can see that almost all of your hunter's DPS would be affected by ArP. Even though pets do not benefit from ArP whereas an AP gemming would benefit both the pet and the hunter, the fact that the hunter's DPS is much higher than that of the pet makes ArP gemming superior in later levels of gear.
