Cancer is definitely overboard, but transmogging for most was either taking a tier set or a pre-made set and using it. Few people take the time to put together original transmog sets. And transmog gave people a reason to run Vanilla and BC raids. Another carrot on a stick in Blizzard's arsenal.

In my opinion transmog and achievements were kinda cool, well actually i love transmog, it gives you a solid reason to run old content with your friends (i remember in Cata cleaning LK raids for achievements, tmog and mounts etc).
