I know in Vanilla you could macro /equip into heals and spells to swap idols or relics in order to gain the bonus during combat. Is this still a thing in TBC?

No because only ******s would take one extra gcd for insignificant boost. You will swap idols only when swaping weapons heal/dmg
As far as i remember it actually is a thing in tbc because it still doesn't trigger a gcd. Just like rogues use three different offhands and swap them to shiv triple poisons in pvp !
It's 2.4.3 and weapon swap triggers a GCD. Swaping weapons as a rogue is fine because you keep pooling energy anyway so you don't really lose much (just a reset on your swing timer). Can't swap and shiv instantly tho, you need to wait a second. If for some reason you can swap and use a spell instantly with a macro then it's a bug. Haven't tested it yet.
