Burning Crusade How does the point system work?

I don't get how the point system works. When I click the (Collect points) button it says I don't have any points to collect. How do I get points to collect?

you need 1000 achievement points to start collecting points. which means you won't get them by simply playing tbc right now. you'd have to play 1 of the other expansions.
