Lately I was talking with my friends/guildies about "Armor". Most of people say that 45k armor aka 75% is the cap for Armor. My thoughts and also a question, isn't that a cap for lvl 80 mobs/bosses?! I think I remember like some time ago I've read a forum post from a Dev that 49k is the cap for in example The Lich King (Lvl 83).
Might be just a silly question from me, or a ******ed post, but I'm just curious. Would also love if a Dev/GM could reply on this post.
P.S - If you want to call me a ****** for such questions (i've already heard it in game lol), or start some dumb/irrelevant drama, please DO NOT reply here.
P.S2 - I've might put this question in a wrong section, if so please move it where it belongs :).
DR% - your physical damage reduction vs appropriate level;
Armor - your current armor;
AttackerLevel - appropriate target level;
This is your formula for calculating what your respective armor cap is vs lvl X target. To illustrate how it works both ways (armor or DR% being unknown):
Let target level be 83 and our armor be 40,000, then we have
X = 40,000 / (40,000 + (467.5 * 83 - 22167.5));
X = 40,000 / (40,000 + 16635);
X = 40,000 / 56,635;
X = 0.706...... //multiply this by 100 to get a % value;
X = 70.6....... % physical damage reduction
Now let DR be 75% and target level be 83, what's the armor value going to be?
75% = X / (X + (467.5*83 - 22167.5)); //75% is equal to 3/4 as a fraction
3/4 = X / (X + 16635); //multiply both sides by "4" and "X + 16635"
3*X + 49,905 = 4*X;
49,905 = 4*X - 3*X;
49,905 = X;
As we can see you'd need to have 49,905 points of armor to get a 75% damage reduction when it comes to targets of level 83. Feel free to use the same formula for targets of levels 80, 81 and 82.
The 45k "cap" is refering to what you can get gear wise (unless you go 2 armour trinkets), the rest u need engineering for armor on gloves /enchants and some even use elixir with 800 armour instead of flask of stoneblood.
