I downloaded it on my mac and it worked and when i clicked the wow icon to open it it says cannot open application?

You have to get Mac version, or get wine.
If it's still not working then: right/control click the WoW file and select "Show package contents", open Terminal (/applications/utilities). In terminal, type "chmod 777 " but do not enter (you must be on an administrator's account, also note space after the 777). Drag the WoW file to terminal. The path of the file should be entered into terminal.Press enter in terminal
