1. how to calculate death strike / heart strike damage

    So I have read this topics http://www.wowhead.com/forums&topic=104959.1#p1188539
    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...nics-explained. And I wanted to calculate death strike damage but I couldn't,maybe somebody would help with that? Here are my calculations:
    (all items unequipped only weapon 5-8 damage)
    1082 AP
    weapon 5-8 dmg
    min dmg +(3,3*AP/14)=260
    max dmg=263
    multipliers=1,15 blood pressence and 1,1 blood gorged=1,26
    260*1,26=327,6
    263*1,26=331,38
    death strike deals 97-98% weapon damage+374 (this also *1,26 right?) so 471,24
    327,6*0,97=317,772+471,24=789,012
    331,38*0,97=321,4386+471,24=792,24
    Heroic training dummy armor decrease this damage by 44% so
    789,012*0,56=441,84762
    792,24*0,56=443,6544
    But when I hit death strike on hc training dummy it hits 525 what did I calculate wrong here?

    only 10% arpen gives about 11,35% armor reduction
    hc training dummy 13083 armor-11,35%(1484,9205)=11598,0795
    using http://rehfeld.us/wow/damage-reduction.html armor reduction calculator it is 41% damage reduction from this armor
    820,57248*0,59%=484,1377632
    823,9296*0,59=486,118464
    Still something wrong ,anyone?

    blade armor is counted into attack power same as veteran of third war ,improved deathstrike is counted into deathstrike weapon damage and bonus damage from death strike I checked this by specced into frost.

  5. Best way to calculate everything is to use the base ability damage without talents, and then multiply everything on yourself, it'll be more accurate.

    Death Strike (Rank 5) is: 75% Weapon DMG + 223

    Modifiers:
    Blood Presence: +15%
    Blood Gorged: +10% (And also reduced boss armor by 10%)
    Improved Death Strike: +30%
    Two-Handed Weapon Specialization: +4% or 0 (You didn't specify if you've spec'd into this)
    Bloody Vengeance: +0/3/6/9% (Didn't specify if you've spec'd into it or not)
    Glyph of Death Strike: +0-25% (Didn't specify if you are using it)

    From the weapon damage (5-8) and the normalization factor of 3.3 I'm going to assume that you are using a starter 2-hander either Broad Axe or Bastard Sword.
    I'm also going to assume that you have 2 points in Two-Handed Weapon Specialization, no Vengeance Stacks, and using the DS Glyph with 25+ RP.

    Calculations:
    83 Boss armor: 10643;
    Armor that can be reduced by ARP: (10643+16635)/3 = 9092.66666667
    Armor that is negated by the player's ARP: 9092.66666667*(139.96)/1399.6=909.266666667
    *139.96 is the Blood Gorged's 10% ARP
    Remaining boss armor: 10643-909.266666667=9733.73333333
    % damage reduction from remaining armor: (9733.73333333/(9733.73333333+15232.5))*100=38.987592575%
    Minimum DS damage: [(5+1082/14*3.3)*0.75+223]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.3*1.04*1.25 = 545
    Maximum DS damage: [(8+1082/14*3.3)*0.75+223]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.3*1.04*1.25 = 558

    This is higher than what you've observed so most likely you are either not using one of the talents I assumed you spec'd into or maybe you had under 25 RP and were using the DS glyph, or had some Vengeance stacks.

  6. Yea I had all of those talents + 0 stacks of vengeance + horn of winter only with 5-8 weapon .
    I took wrong armor value I thought it should be 13083 and btw glyph of death strike is not working atm,
    ty for the calculations (I had 0 runic power but that doesn't matter - glyph not working).
    Edit :I'm using rusted pitchfork for the style points ! :D (5-8 damage)
    Edit2: I think you can't put imp death strike in multiplier like this improved death strike is changing death strike tooltip - weapon and bonus damage.

  7. Hmm with 0 RP and no Vengeance stacks that is more damage than I'd expect, I'm assuming the 1082 AP includes HoW. Were you spec'd into Two-handed Weapon Specialization? Were there any debuffs on the target? Sunder/expose armor?
    Doing the calculation for Imp Death Strike either way shouldn't make a difference, since you'll just be moving the multiplication from the end to the front. (75%WPN DMG +223)*1.3 = 97.5% + 289.9)
    I notice however that you've listed your tooltip bonus damage as +374, instead of 289/290, which is strange, and are you sure about GoDS? I was certain it was working before.
    I'll respec my DK and mess around with DS and HS and come back here, haven't touched blood for some time now.

  8. Okay, here are some tests for: Death Strike (Rank 5) 75% Weapon Damage + 222.75, weapon used: Broad Axe (5-8) 3.1 Speed


    1) No talents, UH presence, no Glyph of DS
    Calculations:
    83 Boss armor: 10643*
    % damage reduction from remaining armor: (10643/(10643+15232.5))*100=41.1315723368%
    Minimum DS damage: [(5+578/14*3.3)*0.75+222.75]*(100-41.1315723368)/100 = 193.49000951
    Maximum DS damage:[(8+578/14*3.3)*0.75+222.75]*(100-41.1315723368)/100 = 194.814549132

    *From what I understand, the actual armor value of bosses/dummies on Icecrown is a bit off (by about 30-100 points) but I'm not exactly sure as to the number (I've been told its 10673, but I think it's even higher), so the damage in the screenshots will vary by 1-2 points of damage.

    2) Blood Presence, Talents: Two-Handed Weapon Specialization, Improved Death Strike, Blood Gorged
    - Straight away I'm seeing the issue with Imp DS and bonus damage, interestingly it's not exactly being multiplied in twice, which would have been 376.4475, very odd. For this reason I'll use the 97.5% and the 374 value separately instead of doing a 1.3 multiplier at the end.

    Calculations:
    83 Boss armor: 10643;
    Armor that can be reduced by ARP: (10643+16635)/3 = 9092.66666667
    Armor that is negated by the player's ARP: 9092.66666667*(139.96)/1399.6=909.266666667
    *139.96 is the Blood Gorged's 10% ARP
    Remaining boss armor: 10643-909.266666667=9733.73333333
    % damage reduction from remaining armor: (9733.73333333/(9733.73333333+15232.5))*100=38.987592575%

    This is clearly not the case, and even if we assume that is just a visual bug, it still doesn't add up either:
    Minimum DS damage: [(5+578/14*3.3)*0.975+289.575]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.04 = 342.974229036
    Maximum DS damage: [(8+578/14*3.3)*0.975+289.575]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.04 = 345.32206579

    I've tested the Blood Presence, Two-Handed Weapon Specialization, and Improved Death Strike all separately and together, and it all adds up with everything stacking multiplicatively (The 374 is just a visual bug, actual bonus damage goes up to 289.575 with 2/2 in the Imp DS). I did this rather quickly in-between putting in the talents and did not take screenshots there, can re-do it and post it all later with the math if someone is interested, cba tonight.

    It all just seems to break down with Blood Gorged at the end, however it does not appear to be a problem for white swings, and it is stacking multiplicatively with Two-Handed Weapon Specialization and Blood presence there:
    Minimum Swing damage: [(5+578/14*3.1)]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.04 = 106.744871021
    Maximum Swing damage: [(8+578/14*3.1)]*(100-38.987592575)/100*1.15*1.1*1.04 = 109.152908717

  9. Oh I see so +374 in the tooltip is just a bug it should be 290 ? I was thinking about this before how it is so much if without anything in frost it's +223.

    So, something is clearly not working properly as the actual damage is significantly lower.

    So I believe the issue is this: the armor penetration from Blood Gorged is not being applied to Death Strike

    This gives the damage I've observed while testing

    Now onto Glyph of Death Strike:
    You are right, the ability always deals the same damage, regardless of how much RP you have, tried from 0 to 30 in increments of 5, and saw no difference at all.
    1) UH presence, No Talents, Glyph of DS
    Calculations:
    83 Boss armor: 10643;
    % damage reduction from remaining armor: (10643/(10643+15232.5))*100=41.1315723368%
    Minimum DS damage: [(5+580/14*3.3)*0.75+222.75]*(100-41.1315723368)/100*1.25 = 242.122689313
    Maximum DS damage:[(8+580/14*3.3)*0.75+222.75]*(100-41.1315723368)/100*1.25 = 243.778363841

    The damage is close enough, so I'd say yes, the talent is giving the full 25%, regardless of how much RP the player has.

    I'd say this is close enough, and it looks like the Improved Death Strike talent and the Glyph of Death Strike are stacking multiplicatively (*1.25*1.3) instead of additively (*1.55), which probably shouldn't be the case either.

    I think that may be a reason :P.
    So most likely blood gorged is not affecting death strike,and maybe other physical special attacks like heart strike,plague strike,rune strike.

  12. No I did not put any points into any strength or AP increasing talents. A single point in Abom's Might would have given me 1.8 (probably would have been rounded to 2 str) and an extra 5% AP. You can check the spec I've used on the armory: http://armory.warmane.com/character/...ecrown/talents

    I think the difference in strength is due to some minor bug associated with talents that increase stats by a %. Once you spec out of them you may end up with less or more of the stat than you had originally, until you re-log.

  14. Interesting need also to take look at plague strike or rune strike but I feel like only death strike damage is a bit too low.
    If you can create a report on bugtracker with that proofs, would really appreciate that.

    446-449 death strike with 85 arp rating from food and elixir
    So overall arp is affecting death strike seems like the issue is only blood gorged for death strike most likely.
