1. How much arpen is sanctified wrath 'equivalent' to?

As we know sanctified wrath bypasses armor in addition to dmg reduction cds/buffs/shields/talents/etc, so i am wondering about the technical arpen weight of the talent

The obvious number is 50% / 700Arpen but bypassing 50% of armor's reduction doesn't seem equatable with reducing armor by 50%, since there's caps in place and you won't necessarily take half their mitigation just by cutting their armor value in half.. so presumably it's actually worth more than 50% arpen. What's the scoop?

  2. The caps you speak of are why you can't equate them at all. It means that SW is (at its worst) at least 700 ArP (EDIT: actually, this is wrong, check spoiler below), and at its best way more, since ArP only reduces armor up to a certain point. PvE tanks will have way more than what ArP is able to reduce even at maximum (they'll still have around 15k left, which is a lot), but SW will ignore half of this reduction without any caps in place.

You can calculate equivalency for one specified armor value and a specific level of the target (say, bosses in PvE), but you'd need an equation to express the general principle (i.e. for every target in PvP). SW is not equal to a fixed amount of ArP.

    EDIT: Kind of like this:
    Spoiler: Show
Attacker: BiS level 80 Paladin /w Shadowmourne
    Target: Boss level NPC

So as you can see, on a BiS Paladin with Shmourne, its around 778 ArP when solo, and 589 ArP if the boss is under raid debuffs.

Sanctified Wrath bypasses damage reduction effects by a percentage value. It does not directly provide armor penetration. As such, the "value" you get out of the talent against a target will vary depending on how much armor penetration you have and how much armor the target has. There isn't a magic value that can be used to display the "technical armor pen weight of the talent". It is possible however, to state that the talent can provide you at least X amount. That being Minimum Armor * 0.5 = value.

Of course, this doesn't factor in effects like Sunder Armor. Which will also have an effect on how much "value" you are getting out of the talent.
