1. Hello, haven't played WoW in quite a while

Wanna get back into it and play on the BC server now.

Any tips or advice for playing on a private server is welcome :)

  2. Hodgepodge of notes for new players 'coming back to the game' from original retail:

Etiquette and social interactions are much like the retail servers so far as player interaction goes. TBC has the feel of a 'very large server' from the point of view of original 2006 playing. I think Blizz servers would probably be around the 6k-8k players at one time, where as this will hold 10k-14k at peak times.

Best bet at having a good experience is to find a guild that seems to jive with your playing dispositions (PVP vs. PVE, casual leveling vs. progression raiding, couple hours per week vs always on, etc) and with your time zone (global game, Eastern Europeans seem to be in the majority, peak playtimes between 17:00-22:00 GMT, but you can find Western European/American/Aussie guilds as needed).

Some encounters and mechanics are a bit buggier than you may remember, but as a whole it is a well crafted clone of the WoW:TBC experience. You shouldn't have any issues recalling how to level, quest, spend talent points, etc.

You can activate a dual spec option by visiting this web page, and going to My Account > Services > [Server>Character>Coins>Dual Specialisation]. It will deduct 100g from that character in-game, but allow you to maintain two specs at a time (you must fully log out of game in order to switch it via the website when you desire).

When you look up information about quests/items/dungeons, be sure to look up the historical info (cataclysm vastly changed things). On the wikis, find the history tab, and (for TBC) look at the latest update prior to July 2008. When trying to use something like wowhead, vanillagaming or cavernoftime databases are probably your best bet.

Do not purchase (best not to respond at all) gold from third parties. If you wish to boost yourself legitimately, gold (or even gear) can be purchased via this site's marketplace (it is sold by other players, so the price fluctuates; warmane gets a service fee).

Multiboxing is legal here. If you see 5 shamans running amok killing everything in sight - working as intended. If they are ganking you, pray they just get bored after the first kill, or go quest elsewhere.

Botting is illegal here. If you encounter a character that seems to be running scripts (other than the multiboxing software, though multiboxers may also be bots), feel free to report it via in-game ticket.
