@ "p2w", that really depends on how you define "p2w". All items in the shop are available in the game.
@ "noobfriendly", just as noob friendly as retail was at the time. Perhaps even moreso. Icecrown also has a "point store". You can collect points daily (after reaching 1,000 total achievement points on your account) which can be used to pay for lower-end items for services such as faction changes.
Alternatively, Lordaeron is an option. It is just like Icecrown with the following exceptions: No item 'marketplace' (you can only obtain items by working for them normally in-game), x1 experience rates, and some of the raid content is "buffed" (made to be more difficult).
