    Laptop of choice?

I'm looking into getting a gaming laptop and wondering what you all would suggest. If possible it should be under 12k. Add a link as well. It can be a scratch and dent as well.

    Friend,

As everything today is about VALUE, I'd appreciate if you would give us more information on what kind of laptop you really want.

    - Is it 12k, or 12 00? I don't think there are laptops that cost more than 8k
    - Which games are you going to be playing?
    - How much do you care about looks (do you want to be recognized as a nerd in a coffee shop?)
    - How about configuration? Is anything mandatory?
    - What about portability, and battery life?
    - Are you going to type a lot, care about typing experience?
    - How about screen quality/size/resolution? Do you need 4k, QHD, UHD?

    I have Dell Inspiron: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Got it for $700, added 8GB of RAM, 250 GB Crucial SSD year ago, and It feels nice, especially as I didn't give 291312931$ for it.

(If you have unlimited money, be pro and go for Aero 15X - it's just the coolest laptop out there).

Be really careful while buying gaming laptop and stay away from thin laptops. Even some "gaming" laptops that are not thin after some time will start to have temperature problems.

I do understand where you're coming from, but I'm not sure have you heard about Nvidia Max Q?

IN short, slim gaming laptops with decent cooling are out there, and all of them are going to be slim in future. Cooling can be taken care off by 3rd party fans/devices that are like mousepads or should I say "lappads" as well as others that you just stick like large USB connection in the side of your laptop (If needed at all, and it doesn't seem to be).

I used https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri for requirements to play World of Warcraft battle for Azeroth, used the "click here to see recommended hardware" tab, and it sent me to Amazon for a few pc,s and narrowed it down to .....
    - https://www.amazon.com/GL703GE-ES73-...%2Cp_89%3AAsus- https://www.amazon.com/GL703VD-Gamin...%2Cp_89%3AAsus
    - https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-GL703VD...%2Cp_89%3AAsus

If someone could please help out and tell what is better for quality and price or a better deal somewhere else?

Buddy, I'd gladly do it ,but on Monday when I have slightly more time.

Basically, all you're looking for is Nvidia GTX 1050 or higher. Rest either goes with it, or is upgradeable. I'll post by EoD Monday here again.

So, bud - Luckily, I did a serious research on similar type of laptops year ago, so I'm pretty up to date.

    My Recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Laptop-I...pSrc=srch&th=1

    Why:
    1. You don't need to pay for i7-7700HQ if you're going to game mostly. 95% of games don't use more than 4 cores, i5-7300HQ will suffice ( they're pretty much the same, i7 only has HT but that's not something you care about when you game, or doing 90% of other tasks.)
    2. It has GTX 1060 (it will get you going for at least 3-4 years, if playing newer games)
    3. It's super easy to ugprade - there's only one screw on the back, and place for more ram and SSD/HHD
    4. Quality is awesome - this laptop is rated as a BEST budged gaming laptop.
    5. I'm using the older version, after a year it's holding up really well. Newer one is even better.
    6. Battery is impressive for gaming laptop.
    7. Full IPS Panel

(If you don't want to mess with RAM and HDD upgrades (they're only one screw away): https://www.amazon.com/Dell-G5587-78...dp_ob_title_ce ) - 1050Ti though, but it will work for you.

From the laptops you've found: https://www.amazon.com/GL703GE-ES73-...%2Cp_89%3AAsus

This is pretty good, but it's $200 more, and screen is not that good, plus it has a slightly less powerful GPU, 1050 Ti slots just under 1060. CPU is pretty good, but who cares 'bout it when gaming?

Vivobook is looking nice, but it's not aluminum, and it's build in quite stupid manner, people keep complaining about design. Screen is sad for 1.1k laptop too.

    It's up to you bud.

My son inlaw pointed this one out https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-in...?skuId=6162034, is it better?

Comparing to $928 one I showed you it's the same(It has 1TB HD, slightly better CPU and 8GB of RAM for $200 more). But I can see that as a pretty good buy.

Edit: I would search for that same laptop on Amazon or Newegg - they usually have lower prices than BestBuy.

  11. Avoid the Razer machines, overly thin and even while web browsing the fans can be unusually high. Last christmas I bought an Alienware 15 and don't regret it one bit. I stacked Christmas savings on top of a coupon code + ebates and ended up @ ~1200-1300 w/ the top of the line K series processor and a 1070gtx video card. It's a nice machine, holds 4 drives (1 2.5" 3 m.2) only got it with a plain harddisk + 256gb ssd, 1080p non-gsync IPS display to increase battery life on the go. For the most part I use it as a desktop replacement docked to 3 monitors, 10 port USB hub, and wired ethernet. I suggest looking at sites like retailmenot to find some coupon codes for whatever manufacture you end up settling on, if you're patient and keep watching for codes for a couple weeks you can get a killer deal on a great machine.

  12. Anybody know anything about Lenovo laptops? I reviewed some info on the net and it says they are pretty good.

  13. Please don't buy a laptop unless its for work while traveling.

    Why not a laptp?

They're pretty solid, I've been thinking about buying a new one.

    Why not a laptp?
Most laptops are more or less hardware locked and disposable when it comes to gaming, in comparison to desktops.
