It isn't... every item you get with Haste is also going to have Crit...
EDIT: Didn't know he was talking about gemming. Crit still beats Haste unless you have ungodly amounts of it +raidbuffs.

Rarw sims out haste to have a very slight edge to crit, at least in the best in slot gear. That's probably why you see people with such gemming when it comes to yellow sockets.
When simming something you do sim it in a certain type of situation. A 25 man is usually what one goes for and in a 25 man you'll have everything, so whether or not crit beats haste with no additional raid buffs is extremely irrelevant to anyone planning on ever raiding 25/10 mans in bis gear.

Tiny Abomination in a Jar and Shadowmourne procs help haste itemization a lot.
