1. Herald

Whats the best spec for healing herald as priest, and what should be the BiS list for that?

  2. Hi! I did not heal Herald just yet, but to my knowledge is it a pretty aoe heavy fight, with sudden health drops. In this environment, I would definitely go for a serendipity holy talent build. Also after discussing it with some ppl, the tanks need heavy healing too, so it would be nice to grab an other healer, who has more tools to heal the tanks effectively. To do that as a priest would not be as effective as focusing on keeping up the raid.
I also googled a little for gear set lists, where I found this link https://www.wowhead.com/guide=4451/p...and-gear-lists. Although it was updated for later expansions, it is giving you some help with the gearing process. As in grabbing some tier7 pieces or the darkmoon fairy trinket. Also that Valanyr can't be used in the process. In the first comment they also list some useful weapon choices. Right now I don't have the time to browse through databases, but it would be an interesting discussion to try and find the bis list for this achievement.
About the talents, I would definitely recommend going for some burst aoe healing, maybe something like this: Talents no.1
Since the fight has many arcane aoe damage, I would definitely grab Spell Warding, and Desperate Prayer for personal CDs. At the end, I had about 3 points to drop somewhere, for which I picked Empowered Healing, and nothing else comes to my mind right now that would be more worthy to use these for.
I hope this was helpful for you and I am open for any discussion regarding this topic ^_^

Edit: I stand corrected, as after further discussion, disc is also a considerable pick on this fight, as if you can't get proper management on a holy (don't have innervates for you, or a resto shaman with tide), disc could last longer in mana management because of the good chances to proc raid-wide ruptures.
In this scenario definitely go for intellect on the disc, and do not gem blindly SP as you do later in the wotlk contents, since the more int you have, the more mana you gain from rapture. For the talents, I would use something like this: Talents no.2
For the gear the 4set bonus from Valorous sounds pretty handy, since it gives you 250 SP for 5 sec, when you cast a shield, as a disc, this should be up pretty much all the time.

  3. Heya, thank you for your answer! Always a pleasure to here suggestions from another Priest player.
well, Im gonna stick to Discipline if so, because that the spec with I am more confident. I've found a very old "blog" (2009) about healing Ulduar as Priest, there was also a BiS 226 list, both for Holy and Discipline, even if I know 3.1 was kinda a different patch, this BiS list suggests a lot of Crit+Spirit gear for Disci, skipping all Crit+Haste options (well in Ulduar thats just 2 rings and 1 neck, with toc 10 and icc 5 weapon you can also wear http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=47874 + http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=50309). Isnt Crit + haste a better itemization for Disci Priest? Or you need all that spirit to sustain throughout the fight? Also that list suggests to use http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=45929 + http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=45490, while http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=45929 looks perfectly fine, isnt http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=46051 a better option then http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=45490? (dunno why, but I dont like that proc a lot on a healer) taking also in consideration I could wear Crit+Haste gear more safely with http://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=46051 active helping my mana management.

Idk tho, thats all theory because I've never tried to heal Algalon if not with an heavily overgeared group, and I could be entirely wrong

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply, holidays ran over me.
I have received the following information of Mr. Gnimo Oldman, who has experienced Herald healing both with holy and disc too:
With a disc on the group, the damage from the stars were not even noticeable, while holy struggled to heal the group to the fullest.
I would agree that shields can soak up a lot of damage so disc could be the way to go, especially if you are more comfy with this playstyle.

Up to my knowledge, on lower gear levels disc benefits the Intellect would be a more useful stat than spirit in terms of mana regen. Disc only gains the 50% regen (Meditation) from spirit, no SP like holy. Also spirit starts to perform better (than mp5) at higher ICC level gears. Till that point spirit is worth the same amount of regen as mp5. So I would say that spirit+crit is definitely not the way to go.
Since the haste cap is quite easy to achieve as a disc (154 with 5% and 3% haste buffs), I wouldn't want to gem for it. This way you will have your shieldspam on 1sec GCD and the hardcasting can be done with the 25% haste from Borrowed Time.
I would go for some SP in the sockets, and some Luminous Ametrine. Gear wisely, after hitting the haste cap, go for SP and crit.

The weapon usage is under discussion, but I would prefer the toc10 dagger+ulduar OH (Sunreaver Disciple's Blade and Shriveled Heart) over the toc10 stave (Illumination).

As for the trinkets: I would say unless your mana bleads heavily, you can roll Pandora, cuz that SP proc is HUGE, also you are spamming shields a lot, so you will most likely take benefit from it, when it procs. Saying this, I have to admit, that I also dislike having proc healing trinkets, but SP wisely this seems like your best bet.
Meteorite Crystal is amazing for the mana regen, so at this point I think it is your call and experience what you would like to pay attention to more.
