It seems like they are using chemotherapy on the population to get rid of gold seller. Anyone with a lot of gold who didn't plain to sell their gold wouldn't truly be effected by this. They go from an unspendable amount of gold to an unspendable amount of gold. People starting out would see an unstable unpredictable game environment and wounder if investing their time is going to be a waste. From what I can see from the previous threads and the market after they announce that they will delete half of peoples gold the prices went up in the AH. Then after the squash everything inflated again.
