When you send coins, you have to type character name and choose realm that the character is on. If both of your characters are on the same account, he could have selected either of them and you would get the coins. If you have not got the coins, he either did not send them or he sent them to wrong name or realm. There is no delay when sending coins, you would get them instantly if he sent them to you. He can check who he sent the coins to in History > Gifting. If he sent them to wrong character or realm, he should make a support ticket on website here.
