"Unable to connect" login error

Hey there, I'm new around here and have a couple of questions.
for the last few days when i try to log in I get an error message saying I'm unable to connect yada yada yada then sends me to an official blizz support website. If anyone can tell me how to remedy this, I'd greatly appreciate that.

Secondly, every time I launch the game, the client forgets all my settings and it does an odd thing where a screenshot of the game remains underneath the client and i lose half of my screen (when I Alt+Tab). Is there any way to install your launch settings in your WTF or data folder?

Make sure to stop seeding the torrent.
Make sure to have writing permissions on your WoW's folder. (Right click - Properties - Uncheck Read-Only).

Also unable to connect - have occassionally made it to authentication, but always times out on connection or authentication

Same problem here. Was working fine last week, now I cannot log in.
