Beginner question

I'm a new player and don't have much experience (nor gold).

What professions for a Mage would be good?

Is Herbalism + Tailoring a good idea (so I can sell herbs and make some gear for myself?)

tailoring and enchanting.

I wouldnt go enchanting for the first character at least not until its a lot higher lvl simply because its a expensive professions to lvl. Herb ( or another gathering profession ) and tailoring seems like a good choice imo. you could also go with Herb and either mining or skining if you wanted.
