Play what you want.
Icecrown is 7x exp, 3x other rates. It's often full, so if you don't want to sit in queue, you might want to either donate or pick Lordaeron (x1 rates).
If you wish to donate, consider prepaid cards over Visa and what not.
PvE and PvP are very much alive, transmog is an option.

Is it worth it? Yes.
