1. WoW 3.3.5 Mac OS client 32bit/64bit

Since Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.4 or later you will get the message "World of Warcraft is not optimized for your mac" when trying to run the client.

It is because Apple is forcing since this update to only support 64bit applications and the launcher is 32bit. Here's Apple's explanation: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208436

Does anybody know a solution (maybe a 64bit client)?

I've read some solutions about running a virtual machine with an older Mac OS version and then executing it via that virtual machine within your main OS. But they only use it for applications and not games. I highly doubt this will give decent performance.

I know I can dual boot with bootcamp but I prefer not to just because of 1 game.

P.S. I'm running Mac OS Catalina.

  2. 32 bit application support was removed in Mac OS Catalina. Mac OS High Sierra might show the message but you should still be able to run it.

There is no 64 bit wotlk client. Apparently Wine also can't run 32 bit Windows applications on it. Virtual machines most likely won't perform well so currently your options are using older Mac OS version or installing Windows using bootcamp. Someone might eventually find/develop a way to run 32 bit applications on it but I have not seen anything yet.

  3. I forgot to mention that I'm running the latest version of Mac OS Catalina.

Yeah so far I've come to the conclusion that downgrading/bootcamp is the only solution.
Just wondering if someone found another solution.

  4. Are you really suggesting this poor soul to play inside a virtual machine?

  5. On a more serious note I know CodeWeavers is working on something to make Win32 applications work on Catalina:

    https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/win...er/156602.html

I don't know if it works at all, how to install it, etc. I just know a few months ago they were claiming they could run 32-bit applications (like Notepad++) on Catalina: https://www.codeweavers.com/about/bl...october-3-2019

I also don't know if Wine will mainline it, given that it requires a patched version of Clang to compile and all… I assume if it gets enough traction it will be installable from brew cask or something. Perhaps it already is.

  6. I normally game on my game PC but I was just wondering if I could get 3.3.5 working on my Macbook in case I'm over my friends place. It seems like it requires too much hassle for only a few times I would need it.

I'll stick to playing retail/classic or other games when I'm not gaming on my game pc.

  7. The additional problem is you can't downgrade the new MacBook Pro 16" to Mojave.
You won't be able to downgrade any new hardware Apple releases to Mojave.
So the next time the MacBook Air gets a hardware refresh, it won't work.
The next time they update the iMac, it won't work.
The next Mac Mini won't work.

If you want to game Wotlk, you have to buy Mac hardware that was released during the days of Mojave or earlier, period.

Everything but the MacBook Pro 16" and Mac Pro satisfies that constraint and still works as of today. The Mac Mini and the MacBook Air need an external GPU to get the fps up to 60 though.

    Have a great day!

Still no progress on this? I recently bought a Mac with the M1 chip and have the same problems.

  10. Did you figure it out?
    1. You can use Wotlk for windows by using "CrossOver" (by following this guide http://forum.warmane.com/showthread....=1#post3043338 )

    2. Otherwise, here a different solution by using Wineskin:

  11. I'm playing WotLK 3.3.5a on my MacBook with M1 ARM Processor. I had to install Parallels + Windows 11 (insider preview) and the game works perfectly with graphics set to "ultra" and at max resolution! I was very surprised to see this game working flawlessly in a virtual machine on a fanless macbook!!!

  12. This is the current best way to play WoW on Catalina/Big Sur

I came here to share this beautiful thread: http://forum.warmane.com/showthread....7852&p=3123707

The original World of Warcraft clients version 3.3.5a and older don’t have support for 64 bit, so they are only available in 32-bit executables. There is no WoW.exe 64 bit for WOTLK 3.3.5 and older versions.

This could be an issue if you are running macOS Catalina or macOS Big Sur (or newer) since Apple removed the support for 32 bit programs since Catalina.

Luckily there is a way to run 32-bit applications on macOS that works for WoW clients version Wrath of The Lich King (3.3.5a), The Burning Crusade (2.4.3) and Classic (1.12.x).

How to run WoW 32-bit on macOS:

    - You need a to have a Windows client of WoW
    - Open this URL: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/releases
    - Under the latest release section, expand Assets
    - Download Wineskin.Winery
    - Extract the Wineskin Winery.app and place it in your Applications
    - Open Wineskin Winery.app with right-click -> Open (or the system doesn’t let you open it)
    - Click on the “+” sign to add an Engine
    - Select the engine WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2
    - Click on “Download and install”
    - In the “Wrapper Version” area click Update
    - Click Create New Blank Wrapper
    - Choose a name for the wrapper, e.g. “WoW335”
    - Click ok, it will now take some time to load
    - If it asks to download Gecko or similar, accept and continue
    - Click View wrapper in Finder, pay attention to the location so you know where to find it again – you can also add it to your Dock
    - The folder contains your WoW wrapper, e.g. “WoW335.app”
    - Open it with right-click -> Open (or the system doesn’t let you open it)
    - Click Install software
    - Select Copy a Folder Inside
    - Select your World of Warcraft folder within your computer
    - It will ask you for the default executable, select Wow.exe and close the window
    - You can now open your .app wrapper (e.g. “WoW335.app”) to run the game.
    - Have fun!
Previously, I had been using CrossOver and it was clumsy and had the issue of the game crashing when RAM went >2GB. Usually crashing in Dalaran was the main problem for people which was often not helped by making changes to the WoD models.

Using the Wineskin method fixes the issue completely.

    It's better than CrossOver because

    1) you don't have to pay / pirate it
    2) It fixes the RAM issue
    3) The program runs without opening CrossOver also, so it keeps your dock tidier.

The only thing I have to add is that it's no longer the 'latest release version' of Wineskin at the Github (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/releases), the current version is the 'pre-release' version. You download the 'Wineskin.Winery.txz' from there. If you're reading this in the future and it has changed again, look for any version which has the 'Wineskin.Winery.txz', all other versions should not have it because they will be outdated.

And with this new version, it's no longer 'WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2' it's been updated to 'WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2 - 2'.

Other than that, these instructions are up to date.

To access the World of Warcraft 3.3.5a directory once you've installed it, you right click the app you made on the dock > Options > Show in Finder > Right Click the WoW app icon > Show Package Contents > drive_c > Program Files > World of Warcraft 3.3.5a. This is the directory where you find your Interface folder in order to add addons. You can make an alias folder to access this directory again more easily in the future. 🦄

Not sure if you’ll see this, but do you mind helping me set up my MacBook like you set up yours? 😅 if so please respond and Ill send my discord info or something. Thank you in advance!
