    Hey there,

Assuming that you are playing on a Wrath of the Lich King server:

    1) Frost is the best leveling specialization. You can use the other specs as well if you want, but Frost will give you the least deaths overall.

Now after you reach max level, it depends on your preference:
    1) If you like PvP (battlegrounds, arena, etc), Frost is generally the 'best' spec, but it's considered quite difficult to master... In fact, the mage class in general requires quite a bit of skill PvP-wise, due to how squishy we are. Hence, if you're a total new player, getting into PvP may be somewhat harder compared to other classes, but keep at it and you'll find it a very fun and strong class
    2) PvE mage (dungeons, raids) is much easier to learn compared to its PvP counterpart. Generally it's agreed that Arcane is the go-to until the mid-late game (aka when you start raiding), where most people switch to Fire.

As a general new player tips, it's recommended to take Gathering professions (Mining, Herbalism, Skinning) for easy money as you level. Gather materials while you quest and sell them in the Auction House to help you learn skills and so on :D That said, I personally started with Tailoring/Enchanting so other professions are definitely doable as well, if a bit slower.

As for more in-depth guides, you can find a lot of them here: http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=379331
    Check it out!
