WotLK How do I level rogue?

Hi might be a very vague question so I'll give you some context. I have never played wow before, nor have I ever played or leveled up a rogue. I don't know what's good and I'm learning the game alone basically.

Ended up rolling rogue because some friends talked me into it. I'm playing solo right now as I'm 2 weeks behind but as I said I just have no idea. I think their end game goals are just pvping I'm fine with that. I just don't want to be altogether useless when I actually get to the later parts of the game so if someone could give me a general idea as to what is "meta" I'd appreciate you. I don't care if I'm going cookie cutter. By all means you can link me to a guide from this website or something I've never used forums so this is new to me as well.

Sorry if this is an inappropriate question or something of that nature I'm not intentionally trying to be a nuisance I just have no idea what I'm doing.

Rogue is completely viable for PvE endgame, don't worry about it!

On leveling, I don't play Rogue much but I've seen people mostly favoring either Combat or Subtlety.

Endgame you want to go Combat for PvE, and I think Subtlety for PvP.
