WotLK Constant FPS drop while playing WotLK

Hello,

I have problems with WoTLK (OLD), it constantly FPS drops and spikes.. Its either if i am in Dalaran or if i am farming some mobs far away from players..





My PC specs are:

SSD: Kingston SSD 480GB A400 SATA 6Gb/s up to 500MB/s Read i 450MB/s Write 2.5" 7mm

HDD: Seagate SV35 3.5 2TB Surveillance Series SkyHawk SATA - 6Gb/s, 64MB cache

Motherboard: Gigabyte B365M H/s1151,Intel®️ B365 Express Chipset, 2xDDR4, 1xPCI-Ex16, 1xPCI-Ex1, GLan, 1 x M.2 Slot, RAID 0/1/5/10, HDMI x 1, VGA x 1, 4 X USB 3.1, 2 X USB 2.0

GPU: Gigabyte N1660GAMING OC-6GD ( GeForce GTX 1660 GAMING OC, 6GB DDR5, 192bit, DisplayPort 1.4 3, HDMI 2.0b 1, Multi-view 4, Power Connectors 8pin, Recommended PSU 450W)

CPU: Intel Coffee Lake socket 1151 Core i7-9700 Box (3.0GHz, Max Turbo Frequency 4.7 GHz 8C/8T, FSB 2666MHz , 95W, 14nm 12MB cache, Intel®️ UHD Graphics 630 )

RAM Memory: Kingston DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) HyperX FURY Black 2666Mhz 288-Pin Non-ECC, CL16

OS: Windows 10 PRO (64-bit)

Do you use Large Address Aware, which allows your WoW client to use more than 2GB RAM.

This does not help.. same problem..

Drivers up to date? It's an old game, and Dalaran is always eating your FPS, like Google Chrome eats your RAM. There are few areas in Northrend that tends to give weird FPS drops for no apparent reason.

Hello Soifon13. Your problem can be some hardware related to your MB, CPU and FAN. According to your spec your MB should be this https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B365M-H-rev-10#kf. The VRM section is too weak for 8 core CPU even tho its not K version. Even more if you use Stock Intel Fan. It's really **** for 9700. While it's working just fine for 9600 (6 cores) it's not enough for 8 core. I use the same CPU but with Z390 Motherboard and Noctua NHD15 which leads me to think that your CPU underclock due to high VRM and CPU temperature. This is why you got FPS dips. WoTLK is very depended on CPU clock. Can you use some program while playing to post and confirm your CPU frequency and temperatures while getting FPS drops? Normally I7 9700 should keep constant 4.4 - 4.5Ghz on all cores and 4.6 - 4.7GHz on single core but if you are limited due to TDP (and you should be cause B series chipset goes too fast from P2 into P1 station limiting your CPU to 65W power draw and depends on how much the CPU bound is the task it can drop your frequency to the base 3GHz). This is 50% less performance which means 50% less fps in WotLK.

The other thing is: Do 5 serial tests with Cinebench R15 and post the pics here.

I say this because before to get my Z390 motherboard I used it with Asrock B360 Pro4 with up to date BIOS which is considered as one of the best B360 motherboard with much much better VRM than yours and I still had a trouble with CPU frequency dips on my I7 9700F.

PS: In additional do you stream during this time or doing some other CPU bound tasks in background. WotLK is basically using only 1 core and if you dont do anything beside playing still can't understand.

I has similar fps issues,

All i did was Disabled my Nvidia from device manager, and turned of vsync in game settings, with which i get constant 70+ fps

Dont use Display Port. I had the same problem, a potent pc, a potent monitor with a DP 4k, 2k 165hz and i had to switch the DP for a HDMI to solve the problem.
