I just installed the game and when I try to open it I get an error and it reads " The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information. Does this private server not support the most recent OS updates for mac? or is there a way around this

it is not about "this" private server. It is about wotlk being an old 32 bit app and "Catalina" does not support 32 bit app anymore.
So, if your mac os is "Catalina" you have 2 different solution:
1. You can use Wotlk for windows by using "CrossOver" (by following this guide http://forum.warmane.com/showthread....=1#post3043338 )
