If the price you're selling it for is 2x than what it was worth usually, it's fine selling it now.
Usually, it's better to buy stuff before the squish so you keep the gold value in items and then sell those items after squish.

You can sell 10 times more stuff before squish[omg have to invest all gold in reagents!1!], higher than usual price, doesn't have to be 2x. You can make same gold in last month as 10 previous months together. That means, even if you let it squish you have 5x more gold. Magic. All the 2x price and stocking up is just to "come out even". You can make gold on people doing that, more than they can ever "save".
