WotLK Warmane Points

To get points, I need to have 1000 ach points on a character. I have 1800 ish on my main character, and yet I still cannot claim any points. I have 2FA activated. What else do I need to do? and what are the points used for? I believe coins are better than points?

Blackrock points doesn't count, you need Icecrown/Lordaeron character with 1000 unique achievement points to be able to collect them on site.
Points are very useful to get your fresh toons some valuable/key items when they ding 80 + it may help to obtain some specific items for Tmogs
