Question about Cookie cutter enha build

Hey dudes,
so I've been just wondering about our talents. This is what I'm using:

I get alot of "pros" whispering me: dude you dont go full in Ancestral Knowledge (+10% int with 5/5). You go into Improved shields!
And I ask why?

My lightning shield does avergae of 5% of my dps.
Lets say its 10k on boss fight just so it's easier to calculate. 5% of this would be 500 dps. Improved shield would give me +15% of that so 500x0,15 = extra 75 dps.
Is it really that good VS extra 6% intelect which gives AP and then 30% of it will be spell power thru talents? so in raid I have something like 1000-1100 intelect. these extra 3 point will give me 6% of that. so around 60-66 AP and ~20 SP. isnt it better than this extra 75 dps?
Or am I wrong somewhere?

You have the reasoning wrong.

The point of taking 2/5 Ancestral Knowledge is to use those 3 points on Enhancing Totems, so your totem buff is stronger than Horn of Winter. Raid buffs will make up for the smaller amount of Intellect. You're not supposed to sacrifice Improved Shields to gain stronger totems.

Also why are you grabbing Elemental Focus and not Improves Stormstrike?

I don't know if you're not recharging your shield when necessary, so you're losing out on some damage, but Improved Shields is a good skill and worth more than 6% Intellect.

becouse it gives you more mana back with just 1 point. I don't wanna search for it now but it has been measured to be superior than 1 point of improved stormstrike.

told you exactly why. My lightining shield is up 99% of time. Can link you skada of DBS or Festergut fight to prove it. Or you can go check some of my videos on yt. Channel name Sharpshady wotlk. Still lightning shield does only MAXIMUM of 5% of dps. I've done the math for you. 3 points give only about 50-65 dps increase on the meter. I feel like this extra attack power and spell power from 6% more intelect will do more than that

Even https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/spell=16113 gives you more DPS than https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/spell=17486.
60 AP isn't much. That's not even two gems...
Anyways, we are talking about tiny variabels here. The DPS difference between those talents is so small that you can't even test it properly ingame.
If you wanna know by how many DPS points 3/3 imp LS outperforms 5/5 Ancestral Knowledge then my advice is to get RAWR and EnhSim. That will give you an in-depth answer.

Patch 3.3.0 is over a decade old. Every possible spec has been debated, tested in game and simulated extensively.

I don't know if you think you can reinvent the wheel, but the popular build is popular for a reason. Question it all you like, but don't be surprised when others ask why you're doing something unusual.
