Are the Battlegrounds active in Lordaeron?

My wife and I play every night and we haven't been in a battleground since level 19. We are level 51 now and the bg still says unavailable for all battlegrounds. I'm just checking that its not something with our account thats causing the issue or is there really no battlegrounds going on. Its kinda hard to believe since its so populated. We are on the server Lordaeron on Alliance. I'm tempted to switch to horde to see if its the same thing but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Anyone have any ideas as to why we cant get in to the bg?

battleground is crossrealm aka all 3 wotlk realms are connected in bgs, and its pretty much active at lv80.

i cant say much about twink bgs tho. but judging from your statement its probably because of nobody does bg during leveling, the server has been running for ages and people are already in the endgame content so ppl do bgs at 80.
