PvE choice. Ele or Enh

Hey,
im kinda new to the endgame as a dps as a shaman at molten and got some questions.
Through bugs (WF/WF procrate, etc) i cant really judge the viability of each spec.
Assuming both specs are BiS geared and played at their perfect rotation in a tank n' spank bossfight. Who will do more dps ?

Im kinda worried of my little ele shaman (5.6k), since other classes scale so well with gear and my shammy limp behind other classes (in terms of scaling).
And yes, i know nearly every trick ^^ How to use CD's to their max. , which haste caps provide smooth rotations etc

To structure:
1. Which spec does more dps (best raidsetup for their class, BiS, perfect rotation, tank n' spank)
2. How does the gearing to dps relation look like? Is there a "gs-cap" which gives a huge boost ?
3. If you cant answer this, how high was the highest dps from one of these specs you've ever seen?

ele shaman in BiS gear are about 14k dps if played well, pushing 16-18k if played incredibly well.
there are "tricks" that can push u over 20k dps, but no one is just going to roll over and teach u. (if u already play other toons in end game some of those tricks still apply)

additionally, enhans is broken with the dogs, and have been said to be fixed, if they are, it could be viable.

however, as a raid leader, Ehans shaman = Frost dk (in terms of buffs), and there are far more frost dks, especially since some of them are topping logs at 30k+ in bis gear. so u will struggle to find a place

where elementals have the UNIQUE totem (of warth) that is begged for by other spell casters such as shadow demo and mages. there SHOULD always be 1 ele shaman in raid, at the very least a resto.

dont be put off by the numbers, the heroism buff can shorten fights or phases by 30 seconds. 30 seconds is a valk wave, or the difference in a burn phase of sindra.

if u dont plan on PvP, os should differently be resto, some of the gear is even interchangeable.

PS. if u dont go oom, dont spec convection or Shamanistic Focus, there are points all over the tree that give u dps during movement that can actually drag u out of 10k dps in fights such as sindra and rot/fester that can change an "average" ele shaman in to a great one.
(the points in earth grasp is for LK + halion25hc, not a must, and not a dps boost, but a survival/usefulness tallent. feel free to change them if u arent ready for these fights)

2. How does the gearing to dps relation look like? Is there a "gs-cap" which gives a huge boost ? Gear heavy like a warrior, SP is everything, crit and haste is everything. haste 1k , crit 35%, and max SP will give u 10k-12k, then everything else is slowly building up. this is at about 5.9k+

3. If you cant answer this, how high was the highest dps from one of these specs you've ever seen?
Elemental, ive personally topped at 21k, but then i found an ele that out dps'ed me by about 700 damage, stalked him closely and found out a few tricks, im just waiting on the right pieces to switch up, predicting 22k since the build is quiet alot more OP than what i had ever noticed.

My mainspec is resto (luv' it) and ele will probably be my os. I've got a nice raiding guild so i dont need to adapt to the "perfect" raidsetup (we've got a low amount of frost DK's anyway)

Where is the difference between "played well" and "played incredibly well" :D?
Edit: The Rotation is the same and the CD usage should be the same too

These "tricks"... are they normal tricks that are in the game... or molten tricks which uses some kind of bug? I played for quite a time (retail mostly) and im curious about these "tricks", since i dont know which trick you're talking about :) Teach me senpai

I think PantoPhobia covered things pretty well.
But before you consider anything else, you'll have to consider which spec you ENJOY playing more. If you have fun playing one spec, then by all means play it. That's the reason we gamers play games, to have fun.

But now to answer your questions. Enhance shamans deal very low DPS compared to other classes, and in fact some guilds will not recruit enhance shamans at all. Elemental shaman brings both more raid buffs and higher DPS to raids, so Elemental would be my definite recommendation for molten.

Enhance does suffer from a lot of bugs that affect their DPS negatively overall, so even at BiS they will not be overly impressive.
Elemental shamans can pull very respectable DPS, and definitely more DPS than enhance when played at similar gear and skill.

As far as joining raids and guilds, enhance shamans are often replaced by DKs/hunters, and Elemental shamans are welcome with open arms for elemental oath and totem of wrath. Also you don't need to compete with hunter's for agility mail gear - And there are TONNES of hunters around.

PantoPhobia said everything that was needed. I would suggest you go elemental, since theres several classes that can give enhancement buffs + do better dps while at it. The lack of good elemental shammies makes it easier to gear up faster too :3

Skilled BiS ele can pull 22k+ no problemito. Dun ****.

@Panto since we both play the same realm and I know most of your dks. Who in gods name is pulling 30k sustained dps as frost BC that's just not possible. And yes ele ofc BC spirit wolves are broke to crap.

@Funkymusic actually enha can pull quite decent dps even with spirit wolves bugged, but you have to re-arrange all talent trees in order to do so. Not saying it is in the best shape right now, but it's playable to do 20k+ dps with high skill and decent gear choices.

Enhance does more DPS than Elem... even if they both kinda suck DPS wise tbh

Elem : chill & easier to start gearing, can be boring pretty fast. Incredibly useful for a raid. Subpar DPS (but you can hope for a fix someday). If DPS is your OS, choosing Elem is probably the wiser choice, because it means easier gearing and easier spec change in raids.

Enhance : You gotta learn a thing or two, but still not the hardest class to play. Slightly higher DPS than elem, but less useful for raids (outshined by DKs). Gearing is **** and going 6.2+ all while avoiding arpen and maintaining the stats caps should be a special achievment. Oh, and did I mention that Enhance is mad fun?


In a perfect raid you don't need Enhance, but if you're good there's not reason to avoid one, even for 25HC.

I remember the good old times where switching relict didnt cause a gcd.
I had like 5 different totems in the bag and keep switching them depending on what ability i use.
Enhance shami pulled nice dmg these days but since they fixed the relcit gcd i never played it again. :/

Although all these posts date from just a couple of weeks ago, the numbers suggest that some of the posters have probably not raided since 2013. 30k sustained is no longer possible outside of bql, and you will find that getting to and above 20k on a shaman of any spec and gear is rather unlikely.

So, what am i supouse to do? stop playing enhancement? reroll? :(:(:(:(

No end raid guild will invite any enhancement shaman to their guild. In fact, they wouldn't even allow their shamans to get gears for enhancement as an off spec. Thats how bad enhancement shamans are but they are quite ok for pvp though.

Anyway, ele can still pull decent dps if you know how to play it. 29k burst and 25k sustained dps on dbs is the best i've recently seen.

How "recent" are we talking here? I very rarely see paladins and mages get up to these numbers since the fixes in january, let alone support classes such as shaman.

Do we even play on the same server? Or does everyone in this section take some really hard drugs?

For the wolves bug you can just go call of thunder spec the wolves even fixed wouldn't be as good as a spec :>
