Make sure he uses a gmail account. Many people make the mistake when trying to recover that here we require use of gmail to register, so people sometimes create a gmail account just for the purpose of register here, then forget about it and account recovery is either confusing or impossible because of this. Do not suggest they change it to allow any email because it has been suggested before and already answered reason they will not change policy: Its easier for staff to require gmail. (Please forgive I do not have exact quote that is how I remember it).
Bottom line, tell your friend to try to remember what GMAIL account he used to register. If he is trying to use a gmail you may have to put in a ticket.
