Online auction api?

Have the developers ever considered putting together an online API that connects to the server's auctions so that people could build tools to search the auction house from a website? Or have they ever considered working with any of their community members who are developers to build such a tool?

API's take quite a bit of time to maintain and I doubt many people would actually use it so the cost would outweigh the benefit by a long shot.
