Warmane on Linux

May I introduce myself as an Linux user who wants to play WoW on Warmane,
I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 ( last version ) and I'm currently suffering various performance issues, I've been looking on the internet about guides and so. The thing is that every information I find applies to the official World of Warcraft, running from battle.net.
So, how can I improve my wow experience in Ubuntu 15.10?
If there's anyone who's playing on Linux, especially Ubuntu I'd like to know what you've done to improve your fps and performance.

edit: nvm, guide i found was for linux running windows.

I personally am not a fan of Ubuntu for gaming. The distro is bloated and sluggish even when using an nvidia GPU with latest drivers.
I'd encourage you to take a look at Linux Mint instead.

Running WoW through WINE, I'd recommend turning on openGL in your configuration. Performance will vary depending on the type of nvidia card you're running.

The game`s actually borderline unplayable if you`re not using opengl, so yeah, definitely use it
These are probably also the 'performance issues' you`re suffering because wine directx support is super bad

Actually on machines with an Intel Iris GPU I had worse performance with openGL turned on as strange as that probably sounds.
I run a Arch setup on my desktop and Gentoo on my laptop using the latest version of WINE. With the nvidia GPU, I do use openGL. My frame rate rarely drops below 60 unless I'm sitting in Dalarn or if an encounter in ICC is graphic intensive.

There is not a lot of mystery behind the installation of gaming on Linux (especially Ubuntu) these days. However, do not expect games to run anywhere as good as they do on Windows.
I have tried myself several games on Ubuntu 14 and 15 and their performance goes down by a lot. But it is not only about their performance, they do have several annoying glitches as well.

I get an average of 60fps on medium WoW quality on my Linux, and no major issues but I casual memory crashes on my Desktop computer. Nonetheless, this last one big issue takes me away from playing WoW on Linux.

When it comes to software I would choose: Wine (if you know how to tweak if correctly), PlayOnLinux or Crossover.

In my opinion and what I do currently, is to have a second partition with Windows for playing only. It will save you a lot of time and nightmares in the long term run. Windows = gaming, Linux = working.

I found the amount of crashes I get on WoW between Linux and Windows to be about the same. Winetricks can go a long way for helping smooth out some performance issues.

To the OP:

On that note, I highly recommend Google to figure out which patches to apply specifically to improve your WoW performance. One of the directx ones does a nice job of this, can't remember which one. I always end up Googling to find it when I do new setups lol.

PlayOnLinux shines here in that it does these modifications for you on a game by game basis so it doesn't affect your base WINE install. Different games have different requirements and you can't just install everything that's listed as this can cause unusual stability problems with other games later.

+1 for play on linux, though getting it to make a wineprefix without a retail installer can be silly, sometimes.

since you already have an install going, also +1 re: "use opengl" to do that change the line: SET gxApi "dx9 (or dx10, or dx11)"
to: SET gxApi "OpenGL" in your config.wtf dial down the graphics settings, and use windowed-fullscreen, and you should be very very playable =)
