HELP: Choosing 2nd Talents...

Hi everyone!
See, my main character is a Protection Paladin (Blood Elf) who just started doing hc.

Since I now got the money for dual spec after grinding 5k gold for flying, I wanted to ask what are the pros and cons of choosing Holy and Retribution.


FYI, I do have a lvl 80 Priest, but because I had leatherworking instead of enchanting, my tailoring with him was hindered a lot... I reseted his LW for Enchanting, hoping to lvl it up eventually. SO, I technically have another healer (holy & shadow Priest), or at least healer-to-be (need better gear ._.' ).

@ Priest, don't worry too much about the profession. It's only noticeable when you need the mana regen proc enchant on your cloak when you're low geared and needing increased mana efficiency. At high gear, you'd use the spell power proc enchant instead, and RNG procs for healers are not that good.

@ Holy Paladin
Pros;
- Very good for doing dungeons.
- Every raid will want one.
- Very strong in pvp.
- Brings the Paladin utility which many groups will love in both PvE and PvP.
- Easy to learn. Easy to play. Can be rewarding for mastering the class utility.
- If played well, people will love you.

Cons;
- Can get dull and boring.
- Most raids will want only one. No more than one. Usually because people still seem to think Beacon of Light is bugged (used to stop working when another Beacon of Light in the group was used).
- You will get tunneled in PvP because of how strong the spec is there.

@ Retribution Paladin
Pros;
- Very good for doing dungeons.
- Every raid will want at least one. 25-man raids may want 2 or 3. Maybe more, depending on the content and comp.
- Brings the Paladin utility, same as Holy, but with some extra group buffs (+3% haste and damage, Improved Blessing of Might) and is popular for on-demand burst damage which can be effective for a variety of things in both PvE and PvP.
- If played well, people will worship you.

Cons;
- The damage rotation can be boring. Requires multi-tasking; using your healing and utilities in addition to your damage rotation can help with this. Don't bother with it until you're comfortable with your damage rotation though.
- Your damage output won't be very competitive if you're playing with similarly skilled players of other DPS classes. Can still perform decently though. This is compensated by the amount of utility and buffs you bring to a group.
- You will get tunneled in PvP after the healers are dead or if there are no healers. This is because of your strong utility, but weak personal defensives.
- If you aren't very good, people will talk trash because you're a Ret Paladin, which is "easy to play".
- If you are very good, people will talk trash because you're a Ret Paladin, which is "overpowered and needs a nerf".
- OK in PvP; Battlegrounds and 3v3. Weak outside of specific comps in 2v2.



TLDR;
Ultimately, both are pretty good and desired by groups. They can also be rewarding if played well. I would recommend choosing which you would have more fun playing.

A Holydin is a healer, though. Getting tunneled is going to happen.
