Malware found WoTLK download (old)

Hey guys (:

So exited to get going with wrath again, however trying to download, and my computer instantly found malware when i started this download.

Once I started the torrent download, my windows defender gave me a popup notification saying there was malware found called "SWF:Meadgive". I looked this name up and it seems like some very shady program. I suspected the site might be infected or something the like.

Because of this, I tried to look on the forums if other people had this issue before. I however could not find anything but apparently people are having issues logging in to the client itself. I don't know if these are related but yeah.

Anyone else has any thoughts on this?

I can only assume you tried to download another/wrong/fake version of wotlk.
Download the clientversion that is pointed to under https://www.warmane.com/download

When exactly did it appear? Did you manage to open your torrent client before it happened? I find it more likely that your torrent client tried to download something shady, especially if it's uTorrent. If SWF in viruses name means that it's a Flash file then it could be an ad in your torrent client.

Sometimes it is just a false positive. But to ensure your computer is free of virus, you can run some other free anti-virus programs to scan the system and delete any suspicious infections if found.

Now, for scans:

Firstly, run a scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware (the Free version is fine, you don't need to activate the Pro trial). Scan with it, delete whatever it finds, reboot and post the log here. Download it from here:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

Secondly, run a scan with AdwCleaner. Same as above, scan with it, delete what it finds, post the log file here.


Thirdly, run a scan with malware removal tool. http://www.okpckit.com/SpyHunter_Download.php (It provides free virus scanner)

Thank you! I did indeed, not sure where it came from, but ran scanner and it removed the malware :D Now i am a happy player :p
