Freezes on realtek soundcards/nvidia graphics?

So, I bought a new MSI gaming laptop and was looking forward to playing wotlk on ultra - must be possible with a gtx 1070 and i7-6820HK, nice SSD and 16 GB RAM.... well, was a bit shocked at the fps in dala - only high 30s/low 40s on ultra settings but ok, I can live with that. What got me more was when the game stopped responding on me when I was flying around dalaran. I have indeed sent the laptop back to MSI to check for HW faults, but have not noticed any issues in other games than wotlk in the few days of owning it. Then I remembered how I'd always crash/freeze on my old ASUS laptop with NVIDIA 635m and realtek sound card. My new laptop has nvidia graphics and realtek sound card.... sigh. Now to the point: anyone with similar laptop setup experiencing random freezes or crashes? Is it possible the realtek drivers could cause this as it always appeared only with sound on on my old laptop?
