Backup made yesterday, account hacked today? coincidence? (outland)

Yesterday I did the online backup on the website, and transferred to alliance from horde on Outland, and today i login to find that my character is naked, all gold and items have been transferred, whoever did this even deleted my epic mount. Upon logging into my character the cinematic for a new characters strangely loaded.

The thing is, I am pretty sure my PC is clean of any type of malware and it's quite impossible that my account got phished. I made a backup yesterday on the website and today it got hacked. There is really no explanation to how my account had been hacked, how did they get my password?

You would tell me to enable the two factor login and all that, I understand it might have saved my account but I am really curious on how my account info was obtained, especially right after the online backup I've made.

Anyway, is it possible that my character can be restored to the backup made yesterday?

The backup simply saves character data, not login credentials like passwords, so.. you should ask yourself: how did someone find out your password?
Regarding your question, no. The back-up is for our use as a safety measure in case of some catastrophic database loss. It isn't meant for players to use for restoration, but for us to ask for it in case such situation arises.

Nothing can be done? even though a backup is right there, still it cant be used?

I mean it's just ridiculous, i understand you simply can't use it due to rules but this would mean i would have to start all over again as my gear got deleted and my gold and items transferred, all that effort and time wasted, even though there is way to restore my account, still it can't be used?

I wish you guys would have some sort of empathy and really put in effort into helping hacked accounts just like how players put a lot of effort into their characters on your servers.

I stand here sure that my PC is clean and account info safe, but still, somehow I get hacked.... it's my fault that my account got hacked and no can really do anything about it even though a solution to the problem lies there.

Considering that for all we can know it could be intentional - get someone to sell everything, ask for back-up to be restored, enjoy easy gold for you or a friend - and that we provide ways to make your account secure past a password, it does more than just sound rational to me, personally. You say you put a lot of effort into your character - yet using 2-step authentication was too much effort? We put the effort in providing alternatives to keep this from happening in the first place, but you have to make use of them yourself.

You can try contacting [email protected] to see if Support might do anything for you, but I wouldn't have high hopes.
