Account Points

So, I've noticed that there's Coins and then there's Points, but I've not found how exactly points are gained, I remember reading about it a while back but I can't find the post now, thus I was wondering if anyone could either A. explain to me how one gets points (i remember it being related to Achievements but aside from that, nothing else), or B. point me in the direction of any post that explains it.
