Bestmaster Spec Leveling and Pets

Greetings guys, im leveling right now a Beastmaster hunter.
Which Pet should I take? Someone told me I should take at the beginning a cat to increase my dmg.
Is that true? What do you recommand me?
And do you have any tips for me as newbie hunter?

pet abilities do not level by themselves, you need to tame a pet with a better rank to upgrade it. So try to upgrade your Bite, Claw, Rake, Gore, lightning breath etc. Cats, raptors, ravagers, wind serpents are all pretty decent.
