State of PvP for New Players

A couple friends and I rolled characters on here a few weeks back in anticipation of/preparation for Season 3, and after a few weeks of BG grinding I was hoping some more tenured players could provide their honest feedback in terms of the state of PvP compared to my shallow observations. When we first hit 70, Winter break was in full swing and the queues were popping off in under a minute for most BGs, but as the weeks went on so did the queues. Just last night queues for most BGs were taking on average 5-8 minutes (Horde side), with seemingly more AFKs on both sides, and depending on your luck you either got 5 capped or were 5 capping, and the competitiveness was gone.

We rolled Horde for the racials, the looks, and the familiarity, but are concerned with the ever increasing faction imbalance. Quick research into the server found the huge boost Alliance received to get players to swap sides, but it appears the effects of that have worn off and the ex-horde are now coming back. Also browsing the forums, aside from the past few weeks, it sounds like Horde dominate BGs. How much truth is there to this?

Neither of us are keen on PvE, and our sole reason for rolling here was to do some arenas and BGs for fun and to kill some time. I’m hoping someone could shed some light on the previous PvP balance between horde and alliance and if those trends are likely continue in the future.

TL;DR what are the pros and cons of PvP on each faction. Queue times, win rate, premade/PvP guild availability are 3 areas of interest.

The faction with the stronger PvP racials has always the longer BG queue. Its in every Xpac like that, Outland isn't a exception.
If u want faster BG queue switch to alliance side for free.

The lack of competition in BGs is due to the BG jumping which gives players the option to swtich to a different BG when they expect a lose. I hope Warmane will make BG jumping impossible one day...

I would rather wait an extra 5-10 minutes for the BGs to pop rather than lose every single match. Can any Alliance chime in as to the win percentages you experience and how many BGs are full of AKFs?

I’m sure queuing with premades alleviates this concern, but that’s not always possible. Who are the good alliance PvP guilds (if any)?

I've been here since day 1 on alliance side and can say that while queuen solo alliance win 75% of the time. Que in groups and its 99.9%...

Now there are games where you lose because you start undermanned or people bg jump. But it seems like it happens to horde a lot more.

I wish warmane could somehow make it where you lose the other bg queues once you enter one. I believe that would help.

Horde can keep their OP racials... I will take my faster queues and higher win rates. =)

I will also add that horde have a hell of a lot more healers. Some should xfer to alliance. =)

That will certainly be a big decision to make for Warmane and controversial either way. Bear in mind that queue hopping IS blizzlike. It's exactly what it was like back in the day. Warmane has on occasion be known to add quality of life additions to the game like dual specc, and even that is controversial. The proposed change would be an even bigger deviation from retail TBC. I can understand if they leave it as is. Because where does it end? Why not boost honor gain a bit, or add a barber? Warmane as a whole is marketed as being very Blizzlike.

Also you say that people move away from an obvious loss, leading to less competitive bgs, but there is no competition in such a bg anyway if it's a clear loss. Leavers may join a bg with too few people, in turn creating a more competitive bg.

As to the state of queues of both bg and arena, they are certainly not worse than on retail. At night they get slower, yes.

Lastly bg win %. In my experience it's highly dependant on when you queue for what. Feeling out all 4 bg's to know which one is succesful and just spamming that one for a couple of hours works great for me. I've been losing a lot of eots lately, so if you're Alliance you might wanna give that a try :D

Personally I have nothing against light custom changes when they are a real addition to TBC.
I don't consider a barber shop or a honor boost as a necessary thing. Even though, funny enough, we already had a honor boost on Alliance side.

What I would implement, if it was up to me, are the Wotlk LoS mechanics and a tmog system which is similiar to Wotlk but with the option to turn it off.

Also, in regards of dual spec: I don't consider it a very controversial subject. The vast majority of the playerbase prefers having it. To be honest, I haven't seen anybody complaining about it. Those who did were probably playing on Medivh and left Warmane anyway already.

Here is my 2 cents being a horde player thn swapping to ally.I think alliance racials are very good. From a druid pov, i miss out on stomp cyclone but i can drink in meld. Tauren hitbox is just too much pain. I have also noticed these private servers are very rogue dominated so perception is sick. Escape artist on war also gamechanger.

If you played on other private servers,or on retail,you could notice that state of PvP BGs here in Outland have 0 quality. It s terrible specially if you are pure PvP player that really enjoy in playing BGs. And i beliave there is a lot players like that on this server. So why Warmane don t do something for that big group of people? Maybe they don t care,so i reccomend you to switch to another server until Warmane don t fix this problems,i did that aswell,I log in only for weekly arena cap. This problem can be fixed by removing BGs jump and/or adding BG NPCs in fron of major citys so people can duel and hang out while they waiting for que or while they organize some premades. It s sad that i quit playing on Outland before 3 weeks,and i m still first in leaderboard for HKs. Warmane should read this and do somethning for PvP community so people can enjoy and experiance the game 100% not sitting afk in BG rooms and when BG que pop entered in just another zero quality BG ! Amen

BG is just a Quest with an Objective and should not be taken as Pure "PVP".

PVP shines in an environment where you are able to control the situation i.e. Arena. In BGs, there are always problems, people go AFK, people don't queue, people do join and are active but not doing what they're supposed to do. BG is just a place where you contribute. Alone you can't do much.

BGs also serve as a primary ground for new players to understand enemy classes and get taste of blood. It helps you get "Ready" for Arena (i.e. true PVP). That's why best / top tier gear is available via "Arena" and not "BGs".

In any given scenario, players always have complaints about BGs no matter what. It is what it is. So let's not confuse BGs with true form of PVP.

Also one can queue with a raid or group of friends. You just need minimum people to secure goals in some BGs.

Plus if your goal is to take maximum HKs then other people being AFK shouldn't be a problem at all.

Not everybody likes doing arena.
On Icecrown the majority of the BiS geared pvpers doesn't even have a arena team.
These ppl are doing only BGs even though they are already BiS geared and don't need anything from BGs.

I assume that it gonna be the same on Outland in like a year when many ppl are BiS geared like on Icecrown.
There gonna be a large pvp playerbase that doesn't need anything from arena anymore and prefers spending their time in BGs over arena.
If BG hopping is still available by this day it would be kinda sad because it takes the whole competition away.

Yeah,that is your opinion here,on forum.. In game is little bit diffrent,i don t know how long you play WoW or what expansions and servers you played,but with time and experiance you will know what we talking about :) Jakkre explained it very well

How is it different in-game? Let me guess, you don't want to explain. Yeah?

It's a fact that BGs are not pure form of PvP they are just "events" designed to get you ready for the ultimate PvP i.e. Arena. If you want to keep saying that BGs are heart and soul of PVP then it's not BGs fault, it's fault with your perception.

If top "Arena" rated players don't wish to do arena anymore and they want to spend time in BGs then I don't think they are joining BGs to get Marks or complete objectives. Are they? Obviously they're in for the honorable kills. Which also means that BGs "are" getting active players and thus crying about Afkers or Jumpers is simply invalid.

Like I said before, BGs would always have complaints especially when they are seen as an ultimate PVP platform.

Personally it's pretty even but fluctuates during different times of the day if you are solo quing. I've been mainly pvping as alliance and bgs are a lot of fun even if I'm losing the bg I switch my expectation to instead go for HKs and it's a lot of fun 1 shotting some random mage. If your goal is to only win every single BG then form a 7 man premade and que for whatever you can get into doing this gave me something like a 42-0 win streak one session and that was across all BGS except AV. Then for AV you will have to become friends with at least 1 very geared tank and heals, we run with a BiS geared prot war and rotate heals that are equally geared and we win nearly every single AV when we farm it cause he can tank drek+ 2 bros easily and we have that option to nuke down the boss really early if it's looking bad and just want our quick 3 marks.

if you don't want downtime I'd go alliance for short que times and there isn't a shortage of people that want to pvp, I'd post in /global and could fill my premades within 10-15 mins and replace people that had to go within 2-3 mins.
