Large Address Aware sometimes not working and might cause ban(Reason Bot)

Hi.

I have followed the forum tip to use Large Address Aware for fixing the common WoW-Errors of the Wotlk client. That has worked perfectly. I have done it around 2 weeks age and had no crash since then. I told a friend of mine, and he decided to also try it. He modified his client (German WOW version from disk). After that he reported me that his game keeps crashing and his combat log was completely empty. Recount and SCTD didn't show any DMD. To fix this i have sent him my wow exe. I have an unused German WoW install lying around without Large Address Aware. My normal wow install is en with LAA. He has copied my German no LAA wow.exe in his folder and tried it again. The problem was still there. Shortly after that he was banned(reason bot). Has anyone an idea what exactly LAA is doing and if that might cause problems with some Warmane Anti Cheat tool detecting client hacks? Or has anyone else been banned shortly after using LAA? If we can find some details we can warn other players/ the GMs and might solve the problem.

It only sets a flag in the file to allow it to use more memory. Nothing else gets modified. As far as I know, there are no automated bans for botting. So it was most likely a GM that banned him based on some kind of proofs. I have been using Large Address Aware Wow.exe for many years. Never had any problems with it and never heard about bans related to it.

Thanks for your reply. The crazy thing is, that he wasn't even online when he got banned. Is Warmane banning persons for bot like behavior after they have logged out? That doesn't make sense. As far as I know, WoW has some anti cheat tool named sentinel that is related to client modification detection. My guess is still, that they checked their sentinel(or something else) logs, detected a modified client and banned the player. Even he wasn't logged in at the time.

Bans often happen when a player reports another player breaking rules and includes some kind of proof. Probably a video that shows a player botting. If provided proof is good enough, the player does not have to be online to get banned. Sentinel seemed to be disabled for some time now or at least stopped banning people. I think it was enabled again recently but I am not sure. Sentinel bans were automated and happened while the character was online. And as you said, it checks for client modifications, which is hacks not bots. Botting software usually only interacts with WoW client not modifies it. Sentinel bans also don't usually mention botting in ban reason.

Thx for the reply again. We just found out, his Account has been hacked. Someone got control over it and has done some crazy things. Luckily one of the GMs realized the problem and has restored the Account. It's pretty clear now, that LAA has nothing to do with the problem. The only remaining problem is, that some chars and a complete guild is missing. Maybe the GM missed something while he was restoring the Account. I'm pretty sure that our GMs can handle the Problem.
