Lost half gold (Lordaeron)

Hey.
After I logout, exactly half of my golds was lost.
Is it possible to do something?
How often does this happen?
Should I continue to play on this server (no desire)?

the gold squish was today. all gold was cut in half. happens once a year and was announced over a month ago.

This was posted on the website and announced in the game every hour or so for quite some time :D
