If you want easy pvp/pve join alliance.
if you want challanging game, join horde.
I've heard paladin and dk are the most easy/op classes for wotlk, but honestly I had most fun playing warrior.

In PvP Alliances are good than Horde. WG 70% on ally side on the day and Horde 30% only in the night.. So i pick alliance of course. You can do what you want. :D
