Adress the gold panic in icecrown

Hello.

on the past few weeks there has been a steady increase on ah and trade chat prices for preety much every item, from simple reagents like herbs, frozen orbs or diferent kind of ores to more expensive ones, like primordial saronites, flasks and boes. everything has become more expensive, and there has to be a reason why.

of course, we all know by now what reason that is. the community is getting ready for a possible gold squish (which usually happens at the end of december)

this howhever, is a panic reaction, the same that happened last year, since prices this year were completely stable up to 3 weeks ago.

i sugest the staff, no, i BEG you. please adress this issue. tell the community that there will be a gold squish, or that there wont be, but please, let us know something. otherwise we will see the same irrational price increase like last years, which ended in a proper gold squish and yet ANOTHER price increase.

once more, i beg you. let the community know that this panic is nonsense.

Squish happens BECAUSE the prices go up. It's steady whole year and then, at the end of October, gold starts to grow on trees and everyone just wants to spend it.

And what do you want staff to do? Tell there wont be squish - like last year?

They never said the wouldnt do a squish last year

Squish is inevitable now that people are scared of it and they just jack the prices up for no other reason than "oh no, I'm gonna lose half of my gold" because they've been just piling it up with 0 thought given to it.

all year long:

Cardinal Ruby: 170 - 200g

King's Amber: 170 - 200g

Early November to date:

Cardinal Ruby: 300 - 350g

King's Amber: 300 - 350g

Official announcement of the reduction of gold (2-1 months):

Cardinal Ruby: 450 - 550+g

King's Amber: 450 - 550+g

I agree. It's impossible to make gold through farming because everyone is farming and you have to battle with someone if you do want to farm something.

It's horrible to raise a profession through AH because it's draining all your gold.

I wonder if they let it happen just to convince people that is easier to donate for 30/40 coins to level a profession, which I was pondering to do as well, because of time wasted and nerves as well? My time spent in game is time wasted outside of it when it comes to gold making and leveling professions.... So I think that GMs should consider that as well. If you do spend a lot of time and money, at least make the server balanced (hopefully is the correct word for what I was trying to explain)

the point here is, people are increasing prices because they are afraid of a gold squish. not because of profesions, extra drops, winter time or whatever. they want an insurance in case gold gets cut in half. thats it.

considering the previous gold squishes were done "to keep the economy balanced" i think staff members should start taking measures right now, and not when prices are doubled or tripled after they announce a gold squish.

i would also like to know what they (staff members) have to say about this, since so far none has answered

I agree. Either squish item counts and gold or do nothing and let the problem sort itself out.

I love how after quish ah prrices are so cheap.. Like primos now are going 800 gold.. after quish they are 150-200 max..
Don't spend gold.. Let them take 50%.. xD You simply buy out all the cheap items and after 6-8 months Sell for 300% profit..
I do that now have made aboth 150% more gold than as i had orginaly before quish..
Exsample keep 200k gold > quish > u got now 100k.. But hey now everything is so cheap.. Lets buy out ah..> Lets buy 400-500 primos.. > Sell after some time For 2x-4x more gold > Now you got 200k or even 400k gold > ??? > Profit <3
As ve all know after quish everyone try's to sell their stockpile of loot and ah gets flooded with items.. Meaning everythings so cheap..

Seen 3 gold quises and i make gold via AH.. no farming etc.. So i know this.

Sad thing is 2 last weeks before quish all item prices cost 400% more gold.. Gems will be 600 gold each.. Primos will be 1.4k gold each.. xD can make so much for the quish that it dosent meant anything..

As for people who are poor and have under 10k gold.. 10 vs 5 thats still nothing xD (sad truth)
As for price increase dosen't mean anything to me personaly.. 100 vs 1000 gold for raw matrials vs Sell crafted items for 200-1200 we get around same profit >100 gold.
Cheap vs High ofc if you farm the raw matrials self that's 10x more gold for you xD

thats exactly why staff members should deal with this problem now, in a diferent way (maybe a simple: "there wont be a gold squish this year" announcement could help?) rather than let it grow and end in yet another gold squish.

Last year it was said multiple times we have no plans and it didn't slow anyone down, they created the problem and forced it to happen within 2 months.

You realise this is not a "problem" for them, right? They want the squish to happen so they can buy stuff for cheap right after the squish and sell it next year before the next squish. What you're saying basically is that whether that occurs or not is on their hands, and not on the staff's hands.

The squish is more of a reaction than an action. I don't believe I was a moderator at the time of the first squish but it's been my understanding that it happens primarily to counter inflation. But since players preparing for it, whether we say it'll happen or not, tend to cause the inflation ahead of time it's really a catch 22 situation. I am going to ask for more information about it, though.

If squish happens as a reaction to inflation, which is reaction caused by squish, it goes into loopy-land. Only way to solve pre-squish panic inflation is to not squish gold, and after 3 years you will see its gradual effect as there wont be inflation caused by gold squish, it is simply not possible to just remove pre-squish infaltion with words, ESPECIALLY after last year. Instead there may or may not be inflation that gradually grow due to overflow of gold on realms, but since, I think, second squish it is more or less fixed with lowered rates.

Well, maybe if you set motd in realms and send out mass Mail and announce it on site and maybe broadcast messages on realm with 15min repeat, maybe prices would stay as is till new years instead of peaking, then declining and returning to normal in a few months.

Last years "there wont be a gold squish this year" announcement clearly worked, but yet squish still happened, so I doubt squish has to do anything prices. I mean, I say "announcement", but it was some random post from staff in some random topic.
