"Paladins dont use leather" Can anyone clarify loot rules for me?
I was a ret paladin in an ICC 25 raid. The raid was advertised as "LFM ICC 25 (DBW res)". A piece of leather melee gear dropped, we had no rogues or feral druids. I rolled a 100, the raid leader said "paladins dont wear leather" and gave the item to a DK. I thought this was an obvious case of ninja looting according to this thread: http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=325598
"What qualifies as raid ninja?
- Master Looter taking items that were not reserved or giving them to players that did not win, unless it's 2nd highest roll when winner had no use for the item (rogue rolling on caster trinket).
Examples of clear looting rules:
LFM Trial of the Crusader. All loot will be distributed via rolling"
To me, a paladin winning agility leather gear isn't a "winner had no use for the item (rogue rolling on caster trinket)." because paladins have multiple pieces of leather as best in slot. Also to me, "LFM ICC 25 (DBW res)" are clear loot rules, saying that I could roll on any upgrade besides the Deathbringer's Will which was reserved. But after reporting this to a GM with multiple screenshots I was told the raid leader did nothing wrong because they get to decide loot priority.
Does this mean if I make a raid on my warlock, I can wait until the end of the raid to announce to all the mages and shadow priests that "mages and shadow priests dont wear +haste gear"? Or would that be considered ninjaing?
Or if I make a raid on my ret paladin and do the opposite of what happened to me, and announce at the end of the raid "warriors and DKs dont wear leather" I automatically win any leather that dropped if we have no rogues and ferals?
I just want to know how far the rules for raid leaders deciding on loot goes when they don't announce anything. Because I don't think a mage is ever going to ask "can I roll on dps caster gear" just like I, as a ret paladin, didn't think to ask if I could roll on leather.
