Hello,
I was wondering, does armor priority apply to ring, neck, etc.....?
A ring dropped from first boss of icc25 "Band of the bone colossus", it's an agility ring, and 3 classes wanted this item, Druid Tank/Shaman Enhancement/Paladin Retribution. I know it's best for shaman enh, but according to server rules, which one of these 3 classes can roll for this item?
(if one of them won it, but because of server rules I should not give it to them!)
Can someone clear this for me please?
There are no clear rules, it's all what items are generally accepted for each class, per-case negotiation or what leader sets.
I'd say they all can roll with equal priority, if there were no specific rules set beforehand.
Ditch "pug's", join a guild. Save yourself 10 headaches each raid.
It's good for everyone of them, While not really being optimal for Feral tank it's still decent, Retribution Paladins "BiS" ring is agility from ruby sanctum, due to how Paladins scale with agility you want a lot of agility at end game gear.
In short give it to who ever of them that wins the roll.
From the example i can only tell you this, paladin roll should be considered as OS, no matter what people think, primary paladin stats is STR.
Feral druid even being a Tank uses agility as main stats also (we are not talking about gems, but item stats).
So is Enh shaman - again primary stat is Agility.
This was how loot should be distributed, yes i've seen those BIS lists where paladins or frost DK need to use leather wrists, but hey those wrists would and will benefit Druid and Rouges and far more.
I would say you go like this ==> Main class stat + main armor type per class ----> secondary stats. This were the rules used for years back on retail, honestly i never had any issues with ninjas, because people generally followed those rules. Platers rolled for plates with their main stats, Agility classes rolled for agility items and so on and on. Weather i'm right or wrong i would say is a personal understanding from player to player.

At low levels, you do not need to worry too much about the stats on your gear. Pick the gear that has your primary stat, and equip any item you come across that has more of that primary stat.
Agility: Feral and Guardian Druid, Hunters, Brewmaster and Windwalker Monk, Rogues, Enhancement Shaman

Additional stats include Critical Strike, Mastery, Stamina, and Versatility. These are not as important as making sure you equip an item with the right primary stat.
The class you choose affects the type of armor that is optimal:
Cloth - Priest, Mage, Warlock
Leather - Rogue, Druid, Monk, Demon Hunter
Mail - Hunter, Shaman
Plate - Warrior, Paladin, Death Knight
Classes can wear armor a tier below their optimal one, but it is considered subpar.

Note2: I don't know how people get their information about the agility scaling, but i've seen full str paladins out dps hybrid geared ones in here (warmane)
The top item build for a ret paladin PVE involves several agility items, they are NOT a pure STR class. That ring is in fact a great item. In the end, the raid leader makes the rules, and their word is law, assuming they make that clear in the beginning. So if you don't like it, you don't join. That being said, the general convention is that main spec > off spec, with the option to choose your off spec as main (i am bis retri maybe, and wish to roll for tank items as main spec, giving up the right to roll for dps gear). As far as to which item goes to whom, as long as the character would benefit from that item, they are entitled to it. The farthest I would call acceptable is when an item is BiS for someone, vs ok for someone else, give the BiS character priority. So maybe the bis discipline priest hands (with spirit) going to the priest, instead of a mage or warlock (where it would be ok, but not particularly good). In your situation however, I would say that all 3 players have an equal right to that ring, it is a great item on all 3. The reason I wouldn't apply the previous example here is that while it may not be best in slot for all 3, the ring is very similar to the actual bis (e.g. Signet of Twilight).

Thank you all for the answers and the information. I always go for stat+armor priority, but the reason I posted this forum was that it caused a lot of feud and ended up with shaman enhance leaving the guild (that was probably for the best) and yes I agree guild run is better but we are short a few people to do a full 25man run and we have to invite some pug's.

3nTRoPy you didn't got the point of what i tried to say. I don't condemn top Builds, BUT untill you get to that certain BIS items, there is a need for clear guidelines for new players on what is considered their class gear. This is why i said main stat and main class of armor for classes. BIS is something compiled by players and its a matter of opinions. Guidelines should be fact.
Guidelines are guidelines, not facts. If you only follow guidelines, you'll lose effectiveness, and we all know only recount numbers matters.Quote:

Sneaking in "Classes can wear armor a tier below their optimal one, but it is considered subpar." was nasty, as it's far from the truth in 3.3.5, as there are no negative effects for DPS/Healers to wear lower armor tier.
Armor type should only matter in RDF for balance's (and simplicity's) sake. Beyond that, we all know armor type is meaningless most of the time.
Not really players' fault wanting lower armor tiers, when they provide better stats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
true that my friend you are totally right, its not players fault, but why not prioritize those armors for the classes that actually need them and then give it to whoever wants it for bis lists and such. I mean if you have a leather user that will benefit twice why give it to a plate user. As i said retail currently and wotlk are different i agree, and sadly i couldn't find any new players guide regarding items. And t he current TBC user guied is meh.
In RDF HC you can only need plate if you are a plate user.
